When someone aligns themselves with a renaissance master nowadays does anybody buy it? If Bob Ross had promoted his mastery of art as comparable to that of Constable would that have been met with acceptance or ridicule? If your work is THAT good then it shouldn’t need to use the reputation of past masters as a crutch to seek approval. It’s an embarrassment.
