Introduction to Akka by Yannick De Turck

Akka is a toolkit and runtime for building powerful concurrent and distributed applications without the complexity that usually comes with concurrency.
Using Akka you can build highly concurrent, distributed and resilient message-driven applications on the JVM using the Actor model in Scala or Java.

The Actor Model provides a higher level of abstraction for writing concurrent and distributed systems saving the developer from having to worry about thread management and explicit locking.
Actors are very lightweight event-driven processes, each GB of heap memory could easily hold several million actors.

During this workshop we want to give an introduction to Akka and what it is like to develop in.

We will do a comparison of developing in Scala andJava and we will demonstrate all the features and advantages Akka has to offer.​
