NWN continues to unearth the most obscure evil metal from around the globe... This time we've unearthed what could be best described as 1st wave black metal from Russia! Recorded in 1986 and originally released under the name Falanga (Phalanx in English), these young comrades created an obscure recording, 60+ minutes total, of black metal in the style of Venom, Bathory, Hellhammer and early Kreator. It's a mystery as to how they got a hold of recordings from the west because this was in the middle of the cold war when communication was tightly controlled between the USSR and the west. Perhaps it all eminated from within and the similarities are all accidental? Whatever the case we are left with something very special for those who dig deeper than Norway and Sweden to find their ancient black metal. We are working on a proper reissue of this historic recording as part of the Eastern Bloc Obscurities series.
