The idea is simple.
Because it isn't.
Something I think is important for the Gerudo beyond their biology is their geography and trade relations. The locations of their town and bazaare as well as the wide selection of goods they sell would make sense if the Gerudo Desert actually connected to one or more lands beyond Hyrule making Gerudo canyon/Gerudo Desert the only land route connecting to the wider world and thus a major trade route. Hyrule probably isn't much of a tourist destination right now but it's quite rich in natural and magical resources and, prior to the calamity, I wouldn't be surprised if some of its agricultural products were also exported.
There is no direct evidence I know of for this route existing or of other settlements beyond Hyrule but it could be argued that the Gerudo are far more comfortable traversing the desert than whoever lives beyond the map borders. I think the existence of sand seal sleds in Tears of the Kingdom (as well as the general emphasis on Sand Seals as a business) could also lend credence to this as they make carrying goods in bulk viable even without roads. As a bonus making Kara Kara Bazaare into a trade hub and running/guarding trade caravans both across the desert and into Hyrule would mean more access to voe.
I suspect that the Gerudo and Gorons may also have been regular trade partners in the past as, despite the geographical distance between them, the Gerudo are known for their work with gems, they are comfortable in each others' climates and they can be found in each others' primary settlements in small numbers.
Loved the video and with the release of totk we now know that all young gerudo are required to live for a time at gerudo town also you didnt talk about the fact that male Goron are allowed in the town
ОтветитьI do wonder how gerudo Town maintains a population when they don't allow males to enter, but eventually leave so they can have children
ОтветитьHah, this video has a fairly abrupt ending. The core problem with considering Gerudo to be parasites is the question of whether they are even a different species from Hylians, and of course, if they can interbreed, they are not. Beyond that, Kokiri/Koroks and Sheika are clearly not separate species, and there is reasonable evidence that Zora, Rito, and maybe even Goron, are all, as the games actually do describe them, different tribes, of the same species. Some magic imbedded in the fabric of Hyrule, may make them seem very different, at times, but that doesn't mean they are not the same at the heart.
ОтветитьI never thought about them being considered parasitic but it makes sense, I'm curious if the tendency of traveling Voe to get a bit "crazy" close to the town os perhaps a symptom of being in close proximity of a large gathering of gerudo pheromones
ОтветитьSome of this is cleared up in totk.
Gerudo children born outside the town actually have to return to Gerudo Town after recharging a certain age by Gerudo Law.
Gerudo males ARE a thing it’s just that they’re rare. and also the birth of a Gerudo male has to do with supernatural shenanigans and Ganondorf has hijacked the system to his benefit.
And as for the union of a Gerudo and Hylian only ever resulting in a Gerudo child, it is to my knowledge only ever implied and never outright stated, there’s a theory going around that Malon is of Gerudo descent fore reasons after all.
This is why Ganondorf ran for the high hills 😜
ОтветитьI don't mind the Gerudo... Aside the strange thing about voes not allowed inside considering Ganondorf happens anyway.
ОтветитьI do wonder what happens/happened to the man That's supposed to be born every 100 years. Like to just stop happening after ocarina of time or do they kill the man that's born every 100 years in fear that might Gannon. Also anyone else remember back in our grain of time where they straight up just kidnapped people to reproduce seriously where the gerudo mask and people in castletown and then look at what happens in the level where you're doing the gerudo fortress
ОтветитьI have another question for this vid: How privileged do you think Gerudo men are?
Since male privilege is a myth for the other human races (trust me on this), I'd assume that Gerudo men are more privileged than other human men, though also not as privileged as Mithra men from Final Fantasy 11.
Privilege I deduce that Gerudo men have are not being treated as expendable and not being required to do hard manual labor, dirty jobs, or soul-crushing desk jobs. On the other hand, Gerudo men are still expected to join their women on the frontlines of a war (and other things like joining them in hunting trips) in order to make them better leaders.
By contrast, Mithra men (while they have higher male birth rates than the Gerudo do, it's not confirmed whether or not the Mithra can crossbreed with other races) are kept sheltered and confined to their home country due to low male birth rates (it's even stated that in Mithran society, the men are tasked with taking care of children (while the women are the ones tasked with the fighting and leadership roles), and the life of a homemaker tends to be a privileged one); that's also probably why Mithran society is a matriarchal one, since Mithran kings, unlike Mithran queens, would not be expected to join their soldiers on the front lines of a war. However, I will mention that there is one male Mithra leader in FF11, and he's turned out to be a great leader.
TLDR: What do you think of Gerudo male privilege?
link was roaming around under their sexy noses the whole time
ОтветитьIt would be neat if you do a continuation of this topic with TOTK
ОтветитьI'm not sure that Gerudo daughters inherit NO traits from their fathers. When Bolson and Rhondson have a daughter, she has her mother's skin and hair color but her father's hairdo. That could be an aesthetic choice, or an inherited trait. It would also explain the variation of traits among Gerudo. They still need outside males to maintain a healthy genetic diversity.
ОтветитьGerudo women so hot like my god if i was there id melt in two ways 🥵🥵🥵
ОтветитьIt may just be style of the art but the Gerudos ears used to be more rounded in the past and now in the future they are pointed. To me it seems like some of the Hyland and Sheka dna is becoming dominant in some of their visible traits
ОтветитьRandom Gerudo child being taller than Link:
Link: 🥺
What about the biological male trans female gerudo that you get the vai armour from in botw in order to get into gerudo town
ОтветитьI never knew the lore was so deep. Gannon is the only male ? Is ganon even male? ???
ОтветитьIf there were more males among them, they wouldn’t have this problem.
ОтветитьSomething I should note: There's a species of fish that works kind of like the gerudo! I forget what its called, but this fish species is all female and lives in lakes with an extremely closely related species that they split off from, and from which they need sperm to activate their reproductive cells (although they don't actually use thr host's genetic material, their daughters are clones) These fish also (probably) specialize in different foods to the host species so that they don't compete for the same resources.
Also, I think your assessment of Shieka as a different species is unlikely. They seem to be compatible with hylians, and even rhe ancient monks are tall instead of short. I think its more likely that they're like... A different thing that's not like species but instead a genetic variant within the same species, like dog breeds.
Also... Where does the idea of gerudo not having committal relationships come from? Just inferred? I imagine we just don't see all the examples.
“Getudo are parasites”
Me after thinking about it for two seconds “wait…wait…WAIT!”
My thought on trans gerudo:
While I love the idea, I honestly don't think they lorewise can exist. (normally) Why? Because of the thing (is it a curse? I dont know) that a gerudo male can only be born every 100 years. So I also would say this goes beyond pure flesh. We still don't know what exactly makes a person be transgender, but in the end it doesn't matter anyway. A "male gerudo" does in my eyes not only mean a gerudo with a penis. So either no trans gerudo can exist, or trans gerudo can only be born every 100 years. Because if you are a man born in a womans body, you still are a male which can't be except every 100 years. Queerness per se is totally fine, there can be asexual gerudo, pansexual gerudo or lesbian gerudo, but trans-gerudo don't make sense regarding this 100-years shananigans. And especially because we know that ganon is still "alive"-ish as a mummy down there. there is still a male gerudo "alive"
[And please don't think I am transphobic because I say they can not exist. I am all for inclusion and I was super phyched when I read that Perfuma is confirmed to be transgender in She-Ra, or that they made Double-Trouble non binary. I am also pan-sexual, so I am queer myself]
🥵🔥
ОтветитьSaw someone else with the take of: what if the voe ban in town was a way to ensure greater safety for those traveling? The logic being if all the obsessed creeps are sculking around the very defendable walls, then the vai going out to look for love are less likely to encounter the creeps due to them all being in one place. Keep your friends close & enemies closer kinda deal.
ОтветитьEastern European: The Tur- I mean, Gerudo are parasites. This is a statement of fact.
Ответитьis anybody going to mention that the gerudo word for male is one letter away from foe different language and all but considering gerudo language has the same roots as hylian the words would be connected somehow
ОтветитьLol I need to take one of those relationship classes, I barely even know how to talk to people of any gender
ОтветитьWith Hylians crushing on Zoras and vice versa, and with Gerudo only birthding other gerudo, I just assume Hyrulean races and species works like Pokémon, the offspring will always be the mother's race with little bits of the father's traits which is why we never see mixed raced people xD
ОтветитьNo way she put Genshin Impact Inazuma on this 😂
ОтветитьWHY is there genshin music in this vid......
ОтветитьParthenogenisis
ОтветитьArn’t getudo, hylians, and sheika just humans like hylians are humans of hyrulina descent that have pointed ears like we actually do see hylian getudo interbred people it’s allll of the they have pointed ears inherited from hylians as well as there eye color variation other than yellow
ОтветитьI wasnt expecting to hear about “rightleaning hylians” today😭
ОтветитьMy headcanon is that the gerudo secret club is for trans and sapphic gerudo
ОтветитьThe sheikah also kept the best documented proof of the beginning and end of the calamity so their prejudice against the gerudo makes sense
ОтветитьOne thing I'm confused about is saying that gerudo and sheika are different species when, at the very least sheika are just a different race but are still hylians. The sheikah were a group of hylians that moved out and made their own society so they are a society not a species. Similar to for example the difference between British people and French people they aren't different species. I always assumed that the gerudo were another sub-race of hylian originally that just developed their own culture that mimics to an extent the Amazons of Greece. However with slightly different biology after many years of acclimating to their climate and changing and everything because it is even said in ocarina of Time I believe that the reason they tend not to keep male gerudos that were born is because they are brute savages. Now obviously that is not true in tears of the kingdom and breath of the wild anymore but I would argue it at least does give some Credence to the theory that the gerudo overtime just adapted, and ended up developing some sort of genetic mutation that causes them to always give birth to a female with the exception of the one male every 100 years. Which it's not very clear if that's 100 years from the birth of the last owner from the death of the last one seeing as ganondorf is still alive in this one and we see no male gerudo be born and this ganondorf has been alive for over 10 thousand years I would say probably from the death of the prior male gerudo. But again I would argue we cannot define them as a different species per se without hard evidence.
Edit: this is the only time I've seen them as well as shieka referred to as different species from hylians but I've never actually understood the reasoning and logic behind that assumption.
On another note, does anyone know the music used throughout the video 😭
ОтветитьGenetic parasites.
Gerudo town. Hyrule's greatest brothel???
They aren't nb you ignorant Russian lizzard. They obviously identify and are female.
ОтветитьAre the people from luralin village hylians? Or something else.
ОтветитьWhat Accent it's that? I can't figure from where could it be from?
Ответитьas a trans man, i have to disagree with trans gerudos being fine. they dont have a very good concept on gender roles but thats half the battle, most of it is internal. yes these gerudo would live and be raised as vai, which have no real distinction compared to voes, but there would still be a sense that something is off. you are fundamentally different than everyone else and you cant put your finger on it whatsoever, because the concept of voes are alien and vauge, but they may still identify with voes even if they dont understand it.
in short: gerudo culture is not devoid of gender roles, its just highly skewed towards vais, and a deep lack of understanding of voes can cause trans gerudos a different kind of distress than it does in western/european societies
