How do you also ground the 2 gang box if it’s an outdoor receptacle with grounding screws?
ОтветитьGreat advice. Why do you need a wire nut on the ground wire connection?
ОтветитьThank you
ОтветитьDoes it matter which of the same outlet wires go to which? Like if the left and the right outlet switched their wires?
ОтветитьGreat video, confirmed what I suspected. But, you put them in upside down. Ground post should go up so you touch it first if you drop something metal on a partially removed plug
ОтветитьHow to Wire Two Duplex Receptacles in a Two-Gang Box the Correct Way
When dealing with aluminum wire.
Aluminum wiring was commonly used in residential housing construction in North America from the early 1960s to the mid-1970s. This practice became popular due to the high cost of copper during that period, making aluminum a cost-effective alternative for electrical wiring. However, safety concerns—such as overheating and fire risks due to improper installation and material incompatibility—led to its decline in use by the mid-1970s.
I used an anti-oxidant compound (Noalox) designed for use with aluminum wiring connections.
While Noalox was historically essential for older aluminum wiring (such as AA1350 used before the mid-1970s), modern aluminum alloys like AA8000 are less prone to oxidation. However, its use may still be recommended in specific environments (e.g., high humidity or salt exposure) or when required by manufacturer instructions. Regardless of what the NEC, NFPA 70, and local building codes state, keep in mind that if you are a DIYer, when you go to sell a property built between 1960 and 1976, the buyer's inspection will likely require an evaluation of the aluminum wire connections. Depending on the competency of the buyer's inspector, the use of an anti-oxidant with wire nuts or a plug-in connector like WAGO (such as the 222, 224, and 773 series) may be required, as they are designed to work with WAGO Alu-Plus Contact Paste.
The overwhelming majority of fire damage I have seen occurred due to journeymen working for electrical contractors. This is significant because most electrical work is done by journeymen.
The largest number of properties damaged by electrical issues that I have seen are churches, followed by care homes. I once saw a distribution section from an 800-amp main panel at a care home that caught fire because the licensed contractor did not use an anti-oxidant compound between the aluminum plug-in sections.
I have seen two residential properties that had electrical fires. Both fires occurred five months after DIYers replaced all of their duplex receptacles.
Good information and Thank You for your time. It sure guided me to be able to turn 2 into 4. Again, Thank You...
ОтветитьSo if it’s for a light source there should be another single wire (not) pig tailed ??
ОтветитьHate bumpers. Waste of my time.
ОтветитьThanks!😊
ОтветитьThank you! But hasn't the 21st century reached the US yet? There is not a single country in Europe that uses wire nuts. When I watch videos from the US, not only about electrical engineering, I understand that this country is at least 50 years behind the civilized world, and in some areas of construction even 100 years.
ОтветитьMy brother says thank you best video for this and delivered in a timely manner. 👍🏼
ОтветитьBut you put them in upside down 😮
ОтветитьJust wired mine in my living room. Thanks for the video
ОтветитьWish you followed through to the end, but informative
ОтветитьIs it against code to just straight connect the two outlets? Thx!
ОтветитьSo...when you wire do you use the same location of screw for pos and neg or do you for instance, use the upper screw for one and lower for other?
ОтветитьThank you so much! Perfectly detailed!
ОтветитьCan you follow this video for a 3 gang box?
ОтветитьYou need to learn not to move your hands in a video
ОтветитьWhat gauge wire are you using for pig tails ?
ОтветитьI would like to add eight outlet together for a special extension cord ( Christmas lights) do you recommend wago ? And how can you wire from out box to the next if you have a video on that please inform
ОтветитьThanks for this. I ran a new outlet in the garage and realized within minutes a should have done 4 instead of 2.
DOH?
Thank you
ОтветитьHow do you pair two flareii spekers
ОтветитьI placed a dual outlet metal box in my cellar and jumped from one outlet to the one next to it. I also grounded the box, as it is metal and that will prevent it from becoming "hot". I understand why your method is better, especially in a longer chain of outlets amd switches. My house seems to be wired in a daisy chain, using the other end of the outlet to go to the next box. 1960 house and codes. Most outlets are ungrounded but all polarized. I have replaced a few with grounded outlets for appliances that need them. The ground wire is wrapped around the romex where it enters the box and clamped, grounding the box. I unwrap it, ground the box and the grounded outlet.
ОтветитьThank you!
ОтветитьI need to wire 8 outlets either in a single box or in 2 adjacent boxes.
ОтветитьThank you for your explanation it was excellen an easy to follow
ОтветитьWhy you don’t complete the job always you are short in excel planing
ОтветитьGM I have one question if there is no ground wire to hook up on the switch s what should I do
ОтветитьI have no visible ground, just a white and brown. New house. Wire pulled through conduit.
ОтветитьWhat gauge wire can I use on the pigtails?
ОтветитьThank you very much very help ful thank you
ОтветитьGreat tutorial...very simple and well-explained...
ОтветитьExcellent video. All steps were clearly explained.
ОтветитьThanks. It was very helpful
ОтветитьWhat's the maximum you can have on one series without overloading the circuit?? Like a 12 gauge 20 volt breaker line can handle up to 13 outlets before being overloaded, so you can hang up as long as it doesn't exceed 13? If it does exceed 13 do you move to a 10 gauge or do you have to start a new circuit?? I appreciate your video, thank you!!
Ответитьthanks. I needed a reminder.
ОтветитьThis method is illegal in all of Europe. Ask yourself why.
ОтветитьI would have like to see you putting both outlets into the box.
Ответитьgreat video
ОтветитьThank you. I like your way of not jumping one outlet to the other. First time I've seen it that way.
ОтветитьAmazing video, thanks! I use the commercial recepts with the clamps and have wired the feed to the bottom set on recept-1, jumpered top recept-1 to bottom recept-2 then down stream nmb to top recept-2. Is this bad? Is the pigtail method the only good/safe method? Z-method does save a lot of space. Thanks again, cheers!
ОтветитьThank you I’m a jackass of all trades so I need all the help that I can get and your videos are simple and very helpful.😅
ОтветитьExactly what I was looking for... straight to the point... everything to the point!! - Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
ОтветитьMy double receptacle is outputting 250v on multimeter when the outlet is rated for 125v and breaker is rated for 120/240v 20a.
Kills anything I plug into it. Why? I just wanted standard outlets for like my gaming pc and tv and phone charger
