Veterans given heroes welcome on Normandy return for D-Day anniversary | ITV News

The D-Day veterans who came from the UK and further afield to attend Thursday's ceremonies were hailed as heroes by the great and the good, and welcomed as liberators by local people, young and old.

What was striking about the veterans themselves, was their humanity, humility and dignity.

Particularly since, for many of them, this was a day of deep and sometimes still very raw and painful emotion.
