Russian Navy new Steregushchiy-class guided missile corvettes -Top Facts

The Russian Federation officially began a naval modernisation programme in 2012, however before this date, projects were approved to replace the many ageing Grisha-class corvettes, these Corvettes began operating around Soviet coastal waters from early 1970 reaching over 80 ships by the 1990's.

The Steregushchiy-class corvette was chosen to replace the Grisha-class in the late 1990's and designated as project 20380, first ship was laid down around 2005, the project subsequently became integrated in the 2012 Russian Federation Naval modernisation programme, after this period the numbers to be built of these powerful ships, were drastisically reduced.
