I work on telecom equipment and I think I’ve inadvertently been making this knot when doing service loops in cable. Whoops.

I had a little 2 man pop-up tent that used this concept. The first time I put it- popped it up I was genuinely amazed. For about 10 seconds because then I was completely dumbfounded as to how the hell I was supposed to un-pop it back into it's storage bag so it sat there on the floor in the spare room taunting me for ten years and flipping me off and- well not really, actually i spent probably 3 hours twisting and folding and yelling obscenities at it until I figured it out.

What about a news channel that wasn't news but reported the closed loops and different applications. You could call it Knot News.

Hi Steve. A suggestion for a video: modern apheresis machines are loaded with a closed loop tube system so blood doesn’t touch anything except these disposable tubes. However, to separate components of the blood a part of the loop has to be spinning quite fast. And there is no sliding water-tight connection for the part that’s spinning. It’s literally just one single tube going from a needle in an arm to the spinner and then out back to the needle. So they use a rather clever geometry tricks to make that loop spin and not twist and break. I’m sure there are other examples of similar solutions, probably a whole class of geometric properties of loops.
