Thanks for this info!
I was just thinking about listing on Ruby Lane. I think I’ll put a pause on it for now. I’m a new reseller and need to get my legs under me before I commit to that monthly charge. 😢
I appreciate your Ruby Lane content. I have been selling on eBay exclusivly for 25 years mostly recreationally until two years ago (putting more effort into it). The beauty of RL is it's focus and customer base. I have a large amount of jewelry from my mother's estate that RL will be perfect for (high end jewelry from when she imported precious gem jewelry from Thailand as a business, mid century Native American jewelry, vintage Mexican silver jewelry, and her own semi precious stone custom jewelry of her design, all of which I would never sell on eBay. Likewise, I have been an antique collector for 54 years (since 12 years old) and will use the Ruby Lane marketplace for that since I have to sell everything before I permanently leave the United State for other shores. Anything left will go to an auction house shortly before I fly away. I believe putting a good quantity of items with decent value on RL simply negates the changes in cost you have highlighted.
Love your channel and useful content and thank you for doing what you do.
RL fees are more than poshmark st this point
ОтветитьRuby Lane's been around for about as long as eBay has, maybe slightly longer, so I'm always surprised people don't know about it. I've never bought nor sold on there, but I feel like I've always known about it. I've been thinking about selling on RL and, when I feel I have enough vintage stuff to list, I probably still will.
ОтветитьThe greed in all the corporations has to stop - people are really struggling. At some point no one will afford to live anymore unless you are a billionaire. People are working 3 plus jobs and still struggling.
ОтветитьEven if you raise your price people don’t have the money they will still offer you less, you can list for as much as you want but people are only going to pay what they can afford.
ОтветитьThank you for the information and update. As a new seller, I was not sure I could find the inventory for 15 items. Now, not sure I can carry the $45. So, will not be trying it out now. Maybe in the future when I’m more established.
ОтветитьGreat video and thank you so much for all the information updates concerning Ruby Lane. I haven’t made my first listing over there yet and now I’m not sure if I will, but I think it’s still an option for me, but it’s definitely on the back burner for now I have a ton of jewelry and a ton of other vintage stuff That I can list but so much of my focuses on clothes right now. My money pile is just out of control.
ОтветитьSorry if some of my posts sound like gibberish or a massively long run-on sentence. I often use voice to text and don’t catch all the errors before posting.
ОтветитьI'll most likely close down my ruby lane shop because I don't have the steady income from there. I can't justify $45 a month especially when I'm selling more on eBay. That and working full time and managing multiple platforms is getting harder and harder to manage.
ОтветитьI SOLD ON RUBY LANE FOR MANY YEARS. It was great for a long time, then they made some pretty terrible changes 🤐. I was part of their beta testing on their "new" photo uploading software years ago... so I kinda saw the inside of the "beast". I couldn't leave fast enough. And I'm thankful I left. Thats all I'll say. 😂 good luck to those who choose to use the site. ❤
ОтветитьExcellent Video
ОтветитьThank you so much for the wealth of information that you provide in ALL of your videos. Your knowledge and willingness to share is wonderful. I haven't taken the plunge into actually reselling yet, but your videos are very encouraging. I appreciate you and Mr. Pish Posh.
ОтветитьThank you for breaking this new info down. I am a new seller on RL. Their email wasn’t crystal clear on what the changes really meant to a seller. I thought they would have offered more to a seller to keep them from closing their shops after increasing costs like a good app, easier listing experience, wider audience.
Are they about to shut down completely, I wonder?
I remember learning in a marketing course that when a brand is phasing out, they
increase the price to get what
they can before they pull the
plug? That’s something to consider when looking ahead. They don’t seem to be growing, evolving, or expanding.
Just a thought.
Hello. Thank you very much for your info. Is the shipping on rubylane similar to ebay? Do you use a thermal printer the same way you do on ebay?
ОтветитьThank you! Do you feel that you get higher prices on Ruby Lane for your vintage jewelry than other sites?
ОтветитьI sold vintage on Ruby Lane for 10 years from 2008 to 2018, and was an exclusive seller there for the first 9 years. Then I opened a shop on Etsy in 2017 where I also sold vintage. During my last year on Ruby Lane, I was no longer an exclusive seller and I found that I had a huge drop in sales because Ruby Lane gives exclusive shops a higher placement in the search results. When I left Ruby Lane, I was paying a maintenance fee that was somewhere in the $80 range (the minimum maintenance fee was $54 for up to a certain number of items - I don't remember exactly how many but I believe it was 80). For every item above that, you were charged a maintenance fee. So between the maintenance fee, and the lower search placement because I wasn't exclusive, I left Ruby Lane.
Last Thursday, I submitted my shop to have it re-opened, without the knowledge of the new $45 maintenance fee, and it was approved by the end of the day. Then yesterday, I found out about the new monthly fee. My first thought was to quit, but I think I will try it and give it a few months to see how it goes. I did have a sale on the first day, which was promising. Now, if Ruby Lane would only drop the exclusivity agreement - I'm not going to hold my breath on that one.
Ruby Lane spotlight and red tag sales have been a bust this year. No traffic, the same Facebook ads over and over. They are not making enough money for them to survive from selling fees. Hence make sellers pay a large maintenance fee. I believe volume of goods will now drop as sellers exit and buyers will look elsewhere. I'm leaving Ruby Lane May 30th.
ОтветитьThanks for your thoughtful commentary on this. I am still deciding if I will keep my shop open. I do want to clarify one thing about the offset ad fees Etsy charges. It is 15% for shops that make less than 10,000 a year but they can opt out of the program. Shops that make more than 10,000 can not opt out but they take 12%. I am in that later group but overall it has not been that much. It does sting a little when one pops up but my margins are very good and at least I didn’t have to pay in advance to promote it to get the they have also started a program that gives you a link for your items and shop that you can use on SM and if it sells for that link you get 4% back!🤩
I agree that all platforms have their issues but for me Etsy has been the best overall.😊
Thanks for the information! I hope you'll consider doing a video on the new Layaway Plan. I'm not sure how I feel about a couple of things -- for example, the process for refunding the sales tax portion if a sale is cancelled and the process for handling installment payments through PayPal. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on these and other issues.
ОтветитьThank you for the RL info as I will be deciding soon where to start listing a massive vintage and antique jewelry collection. I'll look into your other videos but I just have one question. When I pulled up your shop on my laptop and looked at the "solds" there were no sold prices. How can you comp for the RL site without seeing what an item actually sold for on it? Are you just going by other sellers current asking prices or using another service like Worthpoint?
ОтветитьI have never heard of Ruby Lane until I saw your video today. The algorithm sent you to me. I don’t know how well they are advertising in any case. I have no other opinions about the place as I never heard about it until literally five minutes ago.
I am familiar with what’s happening with Etsy lately and don’t like it so knowing about the site is useful . I think having a storefront for that amount of money isn’t that bad if one is active on it and regularly selling from it. But I don’t know I’ve never been there.
Back in 2013 Ruby Lane launched a sister site called Ruby Plaza which had a similar fee structure to what Ruby Lane had until this new announcement. It was very affordable and format was professional. They required a shop owner to list at least 25 items I think to open your shop. I worked hard as everyone else did to list items and I had a few sales. I was selling jewelry and maybe some other items, I really not sure. Within 6 months of opening Ruby Plaza an email went out informing shop owners that they were shutting RP down. There were a lot of unhappy people including me! I could not afford the Ruby Lane fees at the time so I just took them off the radar completely until recently finding out the fee structure had changed dramatically and had decided to give them another try. After watching Pish Posh I have that distrust creeping in again. Too bad it is a lovely looking site.
ОтветитьGreat information, would consider this platform if they considered more payment options. I do not have a PayPal account and will not open one, very disappointing.
ОтветитьEven as a buyer, Ruby Lane are driving me crazy.
They suddenly decided my long used there email address wasn't registered. They off st to send me an email registration email that never arrives.
A seller messaged them to say she had lost a sale we had tried for days to organise and, as I was a regular buyer, please could they contact me direct to put this right. I can't message Ruby Lane for help directly......because they don't recognise my email addresss!
They do not have a UK available UK phone number For me to call.
For a decade I have spent a lot on Ruby Lane, but now have to stop because of their actions or, rather, their inaction. I wonder how many purchases sellers have lost because the platform owners don't bother to clear up their own malfunctions?
Corporate greed 😢 I was going to come over to ruby lane but not now.
ОтветитьConsidering Ruby Lane—Etsy shop was doing well until massive drop in sales early this year. I sell quality antique and vintage jewelry so I think Ruby Lane could be better for me. If you can, please do another video on Ruby Lane selling—any thoughts appreciated!
ОтветитьAnother question: Do you list the same items in multiple shops?
ОтветитьChairish is even worse - their greed knows no bounds.
ОтветитьThank you so much for the "heads up" info. I was just checking out RL as possibility for expanding my online presence, and hopefully sales. I 've had a shop on Etsy now going on nearly 5 years and have done "ok" with sales but I feel that Etsy is dying a slow and painful death due to their allowance of a huge number of sellers that offer reproduction and fake vintage and antique items. My sales seem to be slowly and painfully dwindling as are the number of shop visits and views when compared to previous years.
ОтветитьI've been selling on Ruby Lane for years. I am a full time reseller that sells on almost every major platform (Ebay Etsy Poshmark Mercari and many more). Ruby Lane is a slow selling platform in my experience, but I cross-post so it was fine. Just got hit today with an amount due - apparently I hadn't been paying attention to the fee announcement. I've only had $538 in sales from them so far this year (June), so a $540 yearly fee plus a percent of the sale does not justify their fees. They are not a popular enough platform to be charging those level of fees. I will be cancelling my shop today.
ОтветитьIs the $45 fee waived first month for new sellers? Otherwise, Idk...
ОтветитьDo you need an LLC to sell on Ruby Lane? Also, can I close my shop on Ruby Lane for a month and then re-open it as much as I want? So in other words, I would only be paying 45.00 for only the months I have the shop open. Is this allowed?
ОтветитьWow never heard of Ruby Lane thank you😊
Ответить👍🏾Thank you for educating me
ОтветитьI am so glad that I discovered these videos! I am on eBay, but I have really expanded my inventory, so I need to get serious about selling! I find Etsy to be daunting, and I have not had luck when I have been doing searches. So I checked into Ruby Lane, though I wasn't sure how it was. I appreciate watching videos from sellers who find it to be a good site and I will focus on putting together my shop in Ruby Lane instead of Etsy. (Also will do eBay, Postmark, and Instagram). Thanks again!
