Ответитьsh (=dash) is 4x times faster than bash.
ОтветитьLightdm has never been problematic. I am using it with the slick-greeter. I am using Ubuntu server pro 24.04, which is supported until 2034, with openbox/picom.

ОтветитьI prefer greetd + tuigreet as a display manager if I am rolling my own. But it's honestly not worth the time to customize stuff in general imo.

ОтветитьThanks Chris! 45 days ago I hadn't touched Linux since "pentesting" WEP keys with backtrack. Now I am daily driving MX on the desktop, Debian SID on the laptop, built Alacritty from source on the desktop because the bookworm repos are dated. A month ago I didn't know what a repo was! Thanks so much, I have learned so much just watching you tool around in Linux.
Edit: I had to dig around to find a timeframe. I remember upgrading from backtrack 2 to 3. I was also playing around with a Kubuntu “Jaunty Jackalope” dual boot setup. So, ~16 years ago.
The proper flags are Rcs, (remove cascade recursive) but you could probably just get away with rcn.
ОтветитьHonestly, it's been so long I don't even remember when it was. Anyway, in the old days there was something called xdm, but no one used it, and if you needed windows, like win3.1 in DOS days, everyone used the startx command in the text environment. So I remember modifying the parameters of lilo to automatically log in from text and run startx on boot.
ОтветитьI love alacritty but was forced to use kitty because of the native image support

ОтветитьI think you can desing "app install" section like Flathub does. They have sections and when you click each section you see only thoose app. This way you are gonna have more spaces.
