The west won’t make peace on Putin’s terms and he won’t make peace on their terms. Putin has said, like a million times, that he will not agree to an unconditional ceasefire because its only purpose is to rearm Ukraine. Yet, the west keeps talking about it. Putin will not relent because he’s been lied to in the past and doesn’t trust a word you say. On the peace negotiations themselves, the parties’ respective positions are completely opposite to each other, creating a gap that’s too wide to bridge with diplomacy. As Ukraine runs out of men, the Russian forces are getting stronger. Meanwhile, the west is crippling itself with backfiring economic sanctions and disarming itself by sending all their weapons to Ukraine to be destroyed. NATO is becoming toothless but never stops barking. This is not a stalemate, you can’t force Russia to do anything, and Russia’s terms are only going to get worse as Russian forces spread over Ukraine like a lava flow. Ukraine has to negotiate the best deal it can get NOW while they still have any leverage.

Russia is not the one stalling. ....it is the Ukraine leadership and their Western backers.

The U.S. has mineral rights in Ukraine now, and I highly doubt President Trump is going to give that up. The time is near that the U.S. will intervene. It doesn't have to turn out that way if Putin can be satisfied with what he's already stolen. Ukraine doesn't have to join Nato on paper anymore because the U.S. now has a vested financial interest in the territory. But if war must come, the U.S. will wake up and stand ready for the fight.

We, Ukrainians, have been watching Putin's "peace" since 2014, since the armed invasion of Donbass. There were 3 peaceful "initiatives" from Putin (Minsk-1, Minsk-2, Minsk-3, then in 2022, the global armed invasion of Russia. Now Putin and Trump are leading the whole world by the nose from the same bed.

Why would Russia agree to a ceasefire? A ceasefire allows Ukraine time to resupply and reorganize its troops. Without a permanent, negotiated peace, a ceasefire is a waste of time and strategic gains. Only an idiot would do this.
