one thing the salesman like to do is have the radio on during the test drive so you can't hear if their is anything wrong with the car . big red flag lets turn on the radio ! should be at the top of the list on a test drive ,make sure the radio works then turn it off .this is a trick they do at all the LARRY H MILLER dealers . LARRY H MILLER will always send a salesman on the test drive .

I'm going to be in the market for a new car in the next few years. The best advice I have is to choose a car that you might be interested in buying, when you're renting cars. This is especially helpful when on vacation. You can't get a better test drive than a week long vacation.

Hello! Firstly, thanks for all this helpful info. I just have a quick question, would I check all these things on the test drive along with a PPI or does thr PPI do this?

when i bought my honda Accord the check engine light came on while i was test driving it, (ironic Huh ?) so the salesman said i cant let you take the car right now, we will take it to the Honda dealership and have it checked, it turned out to be a small intake manifold leak, they fixed it and the next day i took it home, i am still driving this car today 4 years later, it is a great car, i got lucky.

Common sense for most people but suggest always get the car up on a lift and check the basic stuff, leaks, corrosion etc, also do check for overspray or signs of repair etc, does the car pull left or right, check all electrics work, check maintenance history, receipts etc etc

Its amazing how many dealerships have cars with the light on so that they don't want you to test drive it for a long distance.

All makers gave up building reliability or any quality control into vehicles over 20yrs ago. Buy what you want but don’t go broke doing it, nothing is built to last, only for a margin. The car manufacturing industry is bankrupt that’s why all countries governments subsidies it. Germany gives the highest % per vehicle in subsidy of any democratic country, To its auto makers.

Bought my first car in 1970. I check where the battery and spare tire (and tools) are. This video is more for used cars. I take the car out, without the sales person. I check "all phases of braking/acceleration". Had one sales person want to ride in the rear. His mistake was not wearing his seat belt. At one point I hit the gas, from a 30 roll, to check response. He was thrown backwards against the seat and didn't bother me.
When turning in a lease to get a new car I clean the old one (like all of mine) top to bottom, inside and out, all the door/hood/trunk jambs end up like new. Picking up one new car (we'd already checked it out) it was the same model/trim as the old lease. When we opened the door and saw all the dirt, I went around and made a list then called the new car manager over. I showed him the car being returned and the one we were buying. Pointed out all the differences and told him that when he gets it properly prepped to call us. He wanted us to sign all the papers, take it home and bring it back. No way, Jose!

this why you order a new car or get one that is in transit. you buy a new car and how many people "test" drove it slamming on the gas and breaks on a new car lol

Tell the sales man you would like to drive the car on the freeway, take as much time as needed to drive the car BEFORE you make a final decision. Do not be afraid to do your test drive on your terms.

It’s best to test drive the car at a dealership, find out exactly what you want. THEN buy your car new car ONLINE, contact several dealers and tell them what you want. Start a price war to get the best price.

Last three days of the month are the best time to purchase your car. Dealers need to meet quotas.

#1 step for me is a test drive alone. If salesman demands they have to go with me, I thank them for their time and leave. Getting to be fewer dealerships that will allow it but still enough do.

Also don't buy a car that doesn't ride smooth. I thought to myself it's probably the tires needing to be balanced or knot on the old tires as the tires where not in good shape. After buying the car and installing new tires to find out 3 rims where bent. Bought new rims and it still has a small wobble probably cv axle. Either way I will never buy another car unless it's smooth across the board. The wobble was the only issue with the car, engine and trans was great and had all the options no leaks ect ect.

We were test driving a Toyota. Dude put the license plate in the car and told us we were good to go. There was only about 30 minutes until the dealership closed so we just went up the road and back down- 5 min maybe. At some point we would like to go on a longer drive. People at the dealership seemed nice and not pushy like some dealerships.

I do have a question which may not be mentioned. I'm looking to buy a new SUV cash. I went to Buick and tried one to drive but the seat was to high and difficulty to get in and out as short legged. Then the following week I tried one type of new Chev SUV as only had a half hour to try it as my new pup was in my vehicle. I wasn't impressed enough on the new model and said I'll be back to try another type. Last Saturday I had a half hour to try another so the Jeep was just before Chev so I drove in to check . I tried the Jeep Grand Cherokee seat and I said " Ok lets go for a drive' . He asked for my license and I showed the salesman. He grabbed it then Without asking He started to take a photo of my license on his personal phone. I grabbed it and said " What are you doing?" He replied " I want it in my data base". I I said "Your a salesperson not a manager and you have no business coping or taking a photo of my license as the same as my SIN number.' I said 'We are done ! I have a license , full insurance, my vehicle is next to your building sitting there with proof of plate registration. You only need my name and address, and phone number from license . I shown you proof of everything plus your driving with me.' He said I'm do my job and I'll go see my manager .. I said "Nope I'm done as your a day by night salesperson which have no business with my license on your personal phone and I don't want any identity theft" . I checked the government site and it stated this was illegal for anyone or business to copy or take pic of my license as to much personal info for identity theft. I had no issue at Buick Dealership nor Chev and they didn't even ask for my license. , I was a salesperson for a few years at GM during the 80s years ago before starting my own business and no way I could do this to a customer trying out a vehicle nor my employees. Does the Dealerships have Salespeople taking pics of everyone's license on their personal phones? Thanks

Bring my kids' car seat - well, now my salesman has one more pain point to try to sway me to buy now. You know, for safety..

I never bring my wife or kids and tell a dealer if they ask what I do that I do governmnent things I can't discuss. That leaves them at least a few less things they can latch on to when it comes time to do the deal.
