this episode:
The Siege of Leningrad tells the story of one of the longest and most brutal sieges in military history. For 890 days, Hitler's armies encircled the Soviet Union's second city, unleashing a campaign of starvation, bombardment, and psychological warfare. By the time Soviet forces broke the siege on January 19th, 1944, over 600,000 civilians had died from starvation -another
200,000 lost their lives to relentless shelling and air raids.
This episode from the acclaimed documentary series Battlefield explores the full scale of this wartime catastrophe. With rarely seen archive footage from around the world, the programme provides a comprehensive analysis of the political and military context, key leaders and commanders, the weapons and tactics used, and the grim reality of life inside the besieged city.
the Soviet-German non aggression pact was agreed in 1939, not 1940
Ответитьplease quit with the censorship of images : this is a history documentary ; the images inform. Don't sugarcoat. Who demands censorship ? Any concerns are adequately addressed by a "viewer discretion" warning.
ОтветитьWhat I keep seeing in the documentary is the difficulties the Germans had with the weather, the mud and the lack of supplies. I almost felt sorry for the poor people. How much they suffered in this place they went to liberate...
ОтветитьOne of the best WW2 series ever. Had it on VHS.
ОтветитьThat is nonsense about the T34 the Germans faced them at the beginning of the operation and the armour was nothing new they weren't built properly and the armour was so brittle there are pictures of the tanks with huge cracks because they heat treated the steel to 600 Brunel wich is to much and there armour was nothing new or ground breaking there was many tanks that had sloped armour
ОтветитьThe brutality, of war.💦💦💦
ОтветитьStrange, germans were going to bomb Leningrad into rubble, starve or deport any survivors our politicians call tha EVIL , and it was and yet this is the same thing happening in Gaza but somehow its ok now, WHY??? Its a slaughter same as this was
ОтветитьI do wish it was possible to view such documentaries without the loud and (for me) distracting so-called background music. It spoils an otherwise excellent video.
ОтветитьUnfortunately, the mention at the beginning of the video that Finland had no intention of conquering the Soviet territories is not entirely true, because Finland not only took back the territories it lost in the Winter War, but also conquered quite large areas of the Republic of Karelia. Among other things, a large part of the so-called East Karelia and Finnish troops occupied the so-called Aunus Karelia, going as far as the south of the Syväri River, where the front then stabilized for about two and a half years.
ОтветитьAnother attempt to hijack the history. On one side: awful Red Army, even the partisans; and on the other poor "Men of Army Group North" who were... N? Oh, no, I can't say that word
I've learned that Germans have no idea of mud, snow and freezing cold. Germany must be situated somewhere in the tropical areas.
The purpose of all this is to convince the Western public that the UK and the US picked the wrong enemy. G. Zhukov said: "We liberated Europe from N. They will never forgive us."
Ahhh, Battlefield! With World at War, the best ww2 documentaries.
ОтветитьThe eternal war of the poor man.......Damn.
Ответить"Russia's Darkest..."
Don't you mean; "Soviet's Darkest.."?
It's very inaccurate to say the Soviet Union is Russia.
Alot of the USSR army was composed of Ukrainians for example. (Many of which were top performers)
Still blurring out Reality! Unbelievable!!!
ОтветитьBattlefield: Its all anybody really needs. I have accepted it.
Ответить900 days of unthinkable suffering — Leningrad wasn’t just a siege, it was a test of human will.
ОтветитьI wish the world existed without war but seems like it’s impossible.
ОтветитьWhy do you blur the pictures of the Dead? You shouldn't do that war should be shown in all its horrors
ОтветитьAs far as eating others is concerned id be happy to donate myself to such a cause after my end came especially if it could save people's lives definitely, im not going to need it am i ?
ОтветитьNot a word about the horrible atrocities visited upon the civilian population of the Soviet Union.
ОтветитьFor me, superb documentary (except the lack of maps).
ОтветитьDo you make any documentarys or do you just find free documentarys and post them?
ОтветитьI’m nearing the end of this video. Same evaluation: more than excellent but lacking detailed maps.
ОтветитьI’m in the start of this video. Excellent documentary. Up to now, it seems historically accurate, unbiased and the narrator is speaking clearly. I did not see, yet, any maps. Let’s hope they exist, later.
ОтветитьHistory is being pixelated. Indicative of the times.
ОтветитьOther historians have been mostly silent about the Finnish participation, most likely due to the friendly nature of post-war Soviet-Finnish relations.
ОтветитьGrateful for Battlefield Series content!
I watch a lot of history content in general, but I am not "educated" per say. Either way critical thinking is important. Anyways, I highly prefer these productions over quite liberal "historians" giving their take on the topic and replacing historical footage with segments of them speaking in more "modern" productions. The latter give me "revisionist history" vibes, especially when their language virtue signals liberal BS.
This series is less technical and more movie like than some of the content I consume, but it is just as good. Makes for good continuous listening, especially since I have Premium (highly recommend).
Battlefield series definitely fullfils my appetite for real footage and good narration.
Thanks for uploading!
they still have not learned
