We can all agree this cop is a stereotype

I was living with a partner who lived in Vinton Va. and had a son on probation, which required her to drive him to his probation officer when he was requested at random. So one morning he gets the call, and we get lunch at Long Johns and eat it in the car before going to the office. We get there and the police have a check point set up and are emptying all the vehicles asking for IDs, ownership papers, and have drug dogs circling the cars. The dog hits on my girlfriend's driver's door, and upon the officer opening the door, shows interest in the seat and steering wheel. The officer, of course, starts the questioning with "is there anything illegal in your car", no weapons, contraband or drugs...etc. She tells him "no" and he then confronts her with why the dog "hit" on her seat and steering wheel. She told the cop "we just left Long Johns and were eating in the car (as she produced the wrappers) and maybe you better feed your dog before you do the next check". Ironically, her niece was also a Vinton cop and recognized the car and drifted over originally to say hi to her Aunt, but when she got there and saw the situation, she informed the questioning officer that it was her Aunt's car and she would vouch for her not having illegal drugs. I'll also note that in my 15 years as a fire marshal we had a number of "bomb" and "accelerant" detection dogs assigned to our office, dogs which need to be "worked" daily. The Investigators who habndled these dogs had a number of vials they'd spread around the different floors or nearby fire station to "certify" the dogs. I often would watch this show if I were in the office, and could never pick up on the dog doing anything consistant when they found the sample they were supposed to hit on. Sometimes they'd appear to just sit and look at the handler, other times they'd point their nose and bark, and other times they would lay down quietly. Of course, the handlers claimed THEY were able to identify when their dogs hit. THe handlers got very upset with the rest of us, as firefighters love to relieve the tension and boredom with pracitcal jokes on one another. On some occasions someown (the phantom?) knowing the dogs were to be "run" later in the day would leave food hidden under or behind furniture, which eventually lead to a memo from the chief that messing with the dog's training would lead to disiplinary action, though no one ever was caught. Needless to say, looking through my history as a professional who was sometime used to hide the "bait", as the handler didn't want to know where the bait was, so he couldn't give off signals for the dog to hit. So I can personally back up most of your advice and comments on this arrest. As you noted they were probably snitched on, so a snitch could be paid and enhance their credibility. I also was told by vice / drug officers that often a dealer will give up a mule to get caught, to divert officers from finding or stopping a much larger shipment. In most businesses they'd call that a "lost leader".

This video brought back a bad memory it's May 2006, I am driving my college age daughter from Norfolk Va. to Escanada Oregon where she had an internship at Mt Hood National Forest. We were staying overnight in Salt Lake City Ut. and ate dinner then rode on I-80 out to the Nevada border to explore the Salt Flats in my grey 2002 Chevy pickup. We drove out to Wendover and then through the park where we laughed at the idiots who tried to 4wd through the salt flags and sunk up to their axles. It was near dusk when we left and headed back east to SLC. About halfway back (the speed limit was 80 as I remember) we were about halfway back when I got lit up by a State Trooper, for no obvious reason. I was a certified state fire marshal in Va. and had law enforcement training, and an IAFF specialty license plate on my truck, so he knew my state of residence and occupation. He came up on the right side of the truck and my daughter rolled down the window and he stuck his head in. HE NEVER ASKED FOR LICENSE, REGISTRATION OR INSURANCE, but asked me "where you coming from"? (Norfolk Va), Where you going (Mt Hood Oregon)? Where you staying? (Holiday Inn in SLC). He then told us "I pulled you over because you were following a car too close (just like this video) and just drive more safely in the future". And we were released. I too believed he was "searching" for a drug mule, as well. Especially since he never even asked for my ID and documents. I was leaving the truck with my daughter in Oregon and flying home. I'll note that that part of I 80 takes us to what is commonly called "the Lonliest Road", thus traffic is obviously very light on that stretch. So what happened to this family has been a long procedure for police to "fish", and I agree should not be permitted.

First time ever getting pulled over the cop thought he saw “shake” in the backseat and smelled weed in the car. He stopped me for having my lights off at night but I had just gotten off work and at this time I hadn’t touched marijuana in my life. I let him search my car and when I get back in my AirPods that were in the cup holder were gone. I know my AirPods were in there because when I got out of my car I looked right at my AirPods in the cup holder while getting out. Never let a cop search your car or your shitll go missing at the price of a warning

The fact that a big narcotics bust was made, that alone makes it a mute point if this was legal or illegal search. What a cruel joke this is on everyone who has good sense. No wonder criminals are embolden to smuggle drugs when Americans always stand up for the criminal, like it is going to make the USA a better place. lol

I agree this dog did NOT alert despite the handler's repeated attempts to prompt a reaction. Why did the cop put his dog up, change its collar and try again. That's several Arizona counties for ya. He also FAILED the extremely important step of praising/rewarding his K9 partner. This dog doesn't have a clue about drugs in the car. Any legit detection trainer could pull this thing apart. I hate drug use, selling and transporters, and I absolutely detest the mishandling of a K9's skills and training by its handler.

The only way to for sure transport drugs in a vehicle would be in abandoned property that does not belong to you, you never looked through because it didn't belong to you, and you do not know the name of the person who it belongs, they are not a friend,or anything like that, just a hitchhiker, bimbo, or vagrant you gave a ride to, they left the property in your car and you just left it in your car in case you would run into them again, and the ideal piece of property in my mind, so the police cannot presume that it really belongs to you is a jacket that does not fit you. So If I am a man I want a small womens jacket.

I call BS on this whole traffic stop. Judging by the excitement in his voice and him not knowing exactly what was in the car at first, he didn't have any knowledge of them having anything prior to stopping them. I think this case gets thrown out hands down. If you can count it as an alert the dog alerted after the 3rd time bringing him out to the gas tank. I want the stuff off the street as much as anyone but this just screams unlawful.

The dog worked perfectly but it seemed to be a "freshman". I'm a succesfull and high respected kynologist and dogtrainer, I also train K9 handlers here in Holland and Germany. We use to train the dogs with a decoy, that means the smell is on one spot. Here it seems like the smell was all over the car so the dog could not locate one point but smelled the drug all over, so could'nt find the "one spot" to alert. So he alerted everywhere. It's a freshman but he did his job.

Then they would probably break my window and drag me out and still search my car. You can't win unless you have millions of dollars for lawyers

My husband and I got pulled over a few months ago for our tags being out of date (only by a few days. We were waiting on his paycheck to get the tags renewed) It was this lady cop, really pretty, but she was a bitch. She asked for both our IDs and I thought then "why is she asking for my ID? I'm just a passenger!" Next thing I know, were being asked to get out of the car so she can search it. No real reason, either. My husband has no criminal record, but I do (everything is 10+ years old) so I assume she ran my name. I didn't really know we could refuse. She waited for a second officer and then she searched my car while this male officer patted me down and made me shake out my bra. It was no big deal. Neither of us had any reason to be worried (but I still worried because of my past. Any interaction with cops makes me really nervous) Anyway, the first cop finished and we were told we could go. She wrote my husband a ticket over the tags. It was more aggravating than anything. Anyway, I'm friends now with the cop who patted us down. Really nice guy. He comes in the neighborhood and interacts with the kids.

Bruce, what i would love to know. I called in a pretty bad accident coming on to a freeway. Was the only witness. No other vehicles. The 911 operator told me, "Turn around,go back to the scene, or you will be arrested." i was like, what?! In my mind, is this real? So i asked, " Are you serious?" The 911 operator replied,"Yes,we have your phone number, " so i said "okay turning around, going back to the scene. "
The thing is, i didn't mind being a witness, but it took 4 hrs and the police officer was going to leave without speaking to me. I was ohhhh no i waited here hours. So i introduced myself to the victims and said, " Hello, saw everything im your witness." they said, " ohh, thank God. " i didn't quite understand their reaction until i started talking to the officer... he was awful. I'm just going to put it that way...
My question is: Can you get arrested for not turning around if you call in an accident?

Has this happened to anyone else??

I-90 goes through my city Spokane, Washington, its actually the largest city on the road between Seattle and Minneapolis, 230 miles east of Seattle. Spokane is a large enough market itself for the drug runners to stop but I am sure there is plenty going through to Seattle and Portland and then going out from Seattle and here to Idaho and Montana. I am sure the highway going north through south through Spokane, 395, is a major gateway to get drugs from her to more rural customers. Its starts at the Canadian borders, comes through here and goes through farmland in Eastern Washington and goes through the really rural and lowly populated Eastern Oregon and then through the really rural and rugged northeast California, then Reno/Tahoe and then ends southern Cali east of Los Angeles. There really isn't a lot of cities on that highway, the three main ones are Spokane, the Reno and Carson City area, and also here in Washington the Tri-Cities. So for sure we are a main hub for drugs going out to places on that highway. So I am sure we and Seattle are the hubs on the other end of the highway from Minneapolis going to Idaho and Montana. Esspeically the western Montana cities like Missoula,Helena,Great Falls and Bozeman.
