Jack’s coming out on a two-episode story arc in Dawson’s Creek was really groundbreaking at the time, especially for us male teens who had no role model (Willow had come out earlier that month on Buffy). The scene he stood up to his father was a total tearjerker.

Another great scene was the “You are glasses” monologue in Grey’s Anatomy. Callie’s first on-screen girlfriend was written off because the actors lacked chemistry, but that doesn’t erase how moving the scene was when she made a perfect analogy to realizing she’s gay.

If they make a top 20, they should def include these two scenes.

I was hoping Umbrella Academy and Doom Patrol would have made the list. UA did it with subtlety when Viktor told his family. While in Doom Patrol, Mora Lee Corrupt kicked ass and made it clear she was no less a person because of who she decided to be.

It is unfortunate that coming out has to be that big of a deal. I only say that because of the anxiety of the outcome. All kinds of people can seem like accepting people until someone comes out to them... It heartbreaking, really. Those of you in the LGBTQIA+ community, know that you are not defective, you are not an abomination, you are just you and you are loved. I love you guys for simply being who you are. The only thing that you can be. While a bit different, I remember the fear and uncertainty that I felt when I found out I was on autism spectrum. I had plenty of the signs and refused to look at them. I didn't want and never asked for it, but those are the cards I was dealt. I worried how my friends and family would feel when they found out. All of them accepted me for who I am, and I accept you for who you are. Happy Pride Month ladies, gents, and those in between. ❤🏳‍🌈

I remember there was a good one on the original season of Skins. The gay character had been lifelong best friends with a Muslim guy and was basically a 2nd son to that guy's family. He was really nervous about coming out to that family but eventually the dad found out and said something like "Its a messed up world and there are lots of things I don't understand, but I have my God, and I know one day he will help me understand. It's called faith, I'm a lucky man. Come inside, son, the food is ready" I remember watching that years ago and thinking it was very casually beautiful

I think Alec Lightwood in Shadowhunters had a best coming out. With the blessing of his bride, before taking their vows, he goes up to Magnus whom he truly loves, and kisses him in front of everyone.

Honestly Justins coming out in Ugly Betty is so good. Nothing is said, he just grabs a guys hand and starts slow dancing with everyone else. Such a good and subtle scene

My mom was 100percent supportive of me but me and my dad never spoke again after I came out to them up until the day he passed away we never spoke. I will never forget when my cousin came out to me. He told me he had a secret he wanted to tell me but he was scared. He eventually told me that he was gay and I said ok, what's your secret. He looked so dumbfounded. I told him that I've known he was gay since we were little and I loved him. The smile on his face was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

Heartstoppers was amazing but I think that's because of Olivia Coleman. She's awesome! Don't get me wrond, I LOVE Kit Connor, but I think Olivia Coleman is the star of that scene. But, you NAILED it with your #1 choice. Patrick coming out to his parents always is emotional for me and it's because, like you point out, it's not the shock of Patrick being gay, it's their sadness that he felt he didn't know how they'd react that gets me every time. And I know it's not a "coming out" scene for Victor, but in "Love Victor", when his mother tells off the homophobic priest, she does "come out", in a way, as a strong loving mother to her "beautiful, perfect, gay son".

Dawson's creek unfortunately never get the love it deserves in coming out lists and it's far better than most of the list here!

Olivia Coleman said that her emotions were genuine and that she forgot her lines because she was so wrapped up in the scene. It's even more touching after finding out that Kit is also bi, though being forced out of the closet by the press and fan is a shadow over the whole thing.

I'll always had a soft spot for Alec's coming out scene in Shadow Hunters (Malec, S1 EP 12). Without giving anything away, it's a bold and surprising. The collateral damage is painful to watch, but the scene itself is great.

My parents have always said to me and my brother that they don't care with who we come home as long as we are happy. When my uncle was in his late teens he came out as gay. Everyone in his family accepted it. Even his grandparents and they where from the 1910's.

Alex Danvers, Supergirl season 2. The scenes when she tells her sister, Kara about having feelings for Maggie Sawyer, and then cutting out before Kara can really say much of anything. And then finally having a real talk about it later.

Also from Supergirl, Dreamer coming out as a transgender woman to Kara in season 4.

Honorable mention: Luz Noceda's slideshow presentation to her mom that ended with "Hi, I'm Bi!" in the montage of season 3, episode 1 of The Owl House, Thanks to Them. If only Disney hadn't cut the show short due to their wish to have shows that have contained stories (so they can drop an episode when they need a time filler that anyone can watch without wondering what's going on) instead of those with season or multi-season arcs, as well as underestimating the size of their audience, then maybe she could have had a better coming out scene.
