AI is getting better at a much faster rate for non technical jobs (like content and design) than it is for technical jobs (like programming and engineering).
Even if you’re bullish on AI replacing all human work, it seems that technical jobs or STEM careers will be the last to go.
That's until we reach AGI, if of course that is considered even possible. Well then the whole game changes, there is something like us humans that can do the thinking part, making informed decisions based on the current situation and past knowledge and on top of that it's waaay to faster and has waaay more knowledge than us humans. Well then it can figure out what to automate on its own, figure out how societies should work better, laws, different structures, etc. and it might come up to conclusions much better than we ever could.
So if it is just a tool to do some tasks yeah, but theoretically if we achieve that level of human-like intelligence we would end up just being the observers of what it comes up to. All the points you are presenting are just assuming we are the only "thinking" part of the universe and we decide what would be better to do next and what problems are worth solving, yet that is not true when we consider AGI. So I would say as long as we don't have AGI we are safe and on the path you describe where we worry about the high-level problems avoiding simple monotonous tasks.
The fundamental difference between these examples and AI is that these tools aren't self-improving and don't "Think" for themselves making it a moot comparison
ОтветитьSteve, I could not disagree with you more on this take. AI is actually good at the creative/design side of work (and will get vastly better) Just 6 years ago no code had ever been successsfully generated from a prompt. You can't compare AI to a spreadsheet, calculator or compiler. AI is the brain, it is the thinking, the neural nets are modeled on our own brains after all. Agents are coming for the whole development cycle, not just the grunt work. Today AI works for you, tomorrow, you will work for the AI. Humans are nothing special, we are just a neural network ourselves and soon there will be neural networks far larger than us.
Ответитьhellz no, ever try coding with ai? i'm always battling it - someone enlightened me which way to use ai to code is the best.
ОтветитьWhilst I don’t disagree, I think you must be cognisant of the fact you sell an AI solution.
ОтветитьWhile I 100% agree with your argument, you were mistaken about the impact of spreadsheets. There was an entire class of 'senior manager' call strategic planners. The did all the operations and strategic calculations needed to plan out the business. This role entirely disappeared as the spreadsheet allowed normal managers to do that work.
ОтветитьNormalcy bias. It's always used to be like that. Humans are so full of themselves.
ОтветитьGpt4o is genuinely crap at coding, I don't even bother with it any more
ОтветитьAwesome Steve!
ОтветитьI feel like AI is more like the evolution of the keyboard than it is something which will replace humans. We use our computers with increasing amounts of natural language.
