00:00 mild but windy and still snowing a bit
00:19 in the last 24 hours, 29mm snow has fallen! Quite a record. This also meant some (but, fortunately, not all) streets were not rreally ideal for biking.
00:22 river Tourujoki in the morning, Lahjaharjuntie
00:59 This is why, as a cyclist, I hate it when the temperature hovers around freezing point: the wheels of the bikes sink deeply into the half-melted snow. The icy snow then retains this carved "groove" even when it freezes again as the temperature drops below freezing. It becomes extremely dangerous to cycle on such roads because if the front wheel of the bike slips into such a frozen, deep groove, a fall is almost guaranteed. The latter can only be avoided if one refrains from instinctively trying to steer the bike out of the groove.
01:34 town center, bus station
01:58 river Tourujoki in the afternoon, Tourulantie
03:00 (flea market part starts here): an UFO lamp (ZAE 0555). Couldn’t find this model anywhere. Couldn’t find any sign of maufacturing year either. Could be a ’80’s product as these were really popolar back then in the 80’s.
03:37 a very old Finnish Suunto compass; these command pretty high prices (as this one too)
04:13 the LP Georges Delerue – Hier Begann Die Geschichte - Pyramiden Und Sphinx (
https://www.discogs.com/release/10924249-Georges-Delerue-Hier-Begann-Die-Geschichte-Pyramiden-Und-Sphinx ) for 2eur. Not a bad price. Too bad I have limited storage space.
04:37 The original (1967) release of the Yugoslavian/ Croatian LP “Alaj Volim U Kolu Igrati (Hrvatske Narodne Pjesme I Plesovi = Croatian Folk Song And Dances)” (
https://www.discogs.com/release/12803787-Various-Alaj-Volim-U-Kolu-Igrati-Hrvatske-Narodne-Pjesme-I-Plesovi-Croatian-Folk-Song-And-Dances ). Not bad a price (1eur) either.
04:46 The Finnish version of BBC’s “Meet The Parkers”. Discogs doesn’t list this particular version, only the French, Italian and Swiss ones. The original UK one is here:
https://www.discogs.com/release/9920538-no-artist-Meet-The-Parkers . Very rare and all Discogs prices are high; well worth the 3eur.
04:54 1964 Hunagrian LP “The Budapest Gipsies” LPX 10058,
https://www.discogs.com/release/1789798-Gipsy-Band-Of-The-Budapest-Dance-Ensemble-The-Budapest-Gipsies . Isn’t worth much as it isn’t rare.
05:01 famous Finnish “Moomin and the comet”, comic version, English, for 3eur. Purchased.
05:19 book Ben Schott: Schottenfreude: German Words for the Human Condition (see
https://www.amazon.com/Schottenfreude-German-Words-Human-Condition/dp/1848549105 )
05:47 receipt for the Moomin comic
05:51 Finnish painting for 1eur
06:09 books (of non-Finnish origin) on the history of painting & architecture
06:34 the only page mentioning famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto (see upper right parargraph on p94!)
06:37 and the section dedicated to Aalto in the index
06:42 receipt for my purchase of the Angry Birds Trading card collector's album I’ve shown on 02/13 (see
https://youtu.be/YKBwWJ07MRg ) and now purchased. Fortunately, no cards seem to have been sold in the meantime.
06:47 and another Angry Birds-specific, Finnish stuff: a raspberry soda can
