For people who are saying it's no big deal, it actually is. English speaking players shouldn't have to go through the trouble of cross checking the dialogues between the English version and Japanese/other languages to make sure the dialogue is accurate and that they're understanding the game the way the developers intended. That's not our job, that's the localizer's job and what he's being paid for. If we have to do that then that means the localizer isn't doing his job and so he deserves the criticism.
ОтветитьThanks for caring.
It's sad how many people are just content with slop.
Localization is the least of this franchises worries, it's bordering on nonsensical bullshit that makes Compilation look competent by comparison. Two games into this bloated mess and it's not gotten any better, Square really should've just left this iteration behind and remade 8 or 9 instead.
ОтветитьThe non super important stuff is bad enough, it's annoying to know that so many games have important context changed because of some localizer's whims. I can still enjoy these RPGs but I hope people who actually respect the original scripts can replace the bad ones.
ОтветитьHoly shit the Barrett one is insane. As u said it, the other stuff is kinda of like whatever even tho its still bad but how do they fuck up the timeline? 😭
ОтветитьSo I'm a JP speaker. The Cloti translations generally play down the romantic aspects. But to be fair, the romantic elements on both sides are reduced. For example, the Marlene and Zack translation plays down Aerith's feelings for Cloud. In JP, it's much clearer. Marlene says "Definitely" to the question of whether Aerith likes Cloud. Then they both make lovebird onomatopoeia - the whole 'because you weren't there' - It's a complete mistranslation. The translation reduces the romance on BOTH sides and for the life of me, I don't know why.
We do have to be careful about harassing devs though. It gives us a terrible name.
It’s a bit of an interesting one and does raise some questions but the Japanese version seems more neutral, leaning on pro Tifa whilst the English localisation feels like it’s the opposite, it makes Aerith lines much more forward and direct then they were in the original in many cases
Ответитьouch based on the evidence you provided I think SE really needs to rein in their English translators a bit. Each little piece by themselves don't mean much but the accumulated effect could lead to a huge misunderstanding of the original writers' intent. (And the one with Barret they might actually want to re-record & patch that scene...it's a huge mistake ).
ОтветитьThere is a mod for Rebirth of accurate translations, when I can eventually get a gpu that can run this I will definately be doing a playthrough with it. :)
ОтветитьDude you have it so bad in some cases. French translation is also better. For exemple in Remake Don Corneo says He made the plan of the shinra failed with plate drop. In french and Japanese he says that there should have been even more death. You got the cleaner and tone down version off the translation in many case since day one. But you have curse words and better phrasing overall compared to french. It is still a good localization
ОтветитьWow this is why Square enix has been caught because of mistranslation and changing words and because of ESRB!
ОтветитьThat dude seems like one of the most insufferable losers I’ve ever seen.
ОтветитьI think they shoul focus on translate 1:1 and not alter stuff for personal reason... and english its the language most used it can really alter alot of stuff i they change stuff
ОтветитьBro that's some crazy shit to manipulate shit like that is becoming such a problem with localizations I'm glad I can understand Japanese speaking language
ОтветитьAre the english subtitles at least correct in the Japanese dub? Or are they fuxxed too?
ОтветитьMan, these translators need to do their job right. They're really putting their bias in and changing the lines or just straight-up messing them up.
ОтветитьGuess ima have to learn japanese fuck the mistranslations
ОтветитьThis reminds me of the ending cinematic of Remake. Where Aerith says "I miss it, the steel sky". Which is super out of character for Aerith. Who actually hates the sky because it reminds her of the people taken away from her. And post Intergrade, Epic & Steam ports. She says in an update "The sky I don't like it."
The localization has some very odd stuff like that littered in all of the Compilation
Wow, you speak soo fast, that’s remarkable. It’s one of my nightmares, getting on a call with a potential client and they would speak like this 😅
If you used less improper words, your videos could definitely be used for trainings and exam preparations for esl students, hehe.
And think of part III when the plot, the dialogue, music, etc will all be important to the storytelling. The translation is the one thing they cannot mess up on, this is upsetting...
ОтветитьDaaaamn, next time I playthrough the game I will see these errors all the.
I used to do karaoke effects for animes traduction teams..
Dragon Ball had the same issues with Funimations translators. They were so bad...
The guys used to complain about this from other team doing the same projects as we were.
Square Enix have been caught slippin’. The Japanese side are the one’s that are ok’ing this. That’s a little concerning.
ОтветитьThese are real people with real jobs that you're witch hunting btw. Over a videogame.
Ответитьthank u a million because im sick off ppl just not criticizing and not seeing clear mistakes in the game
ОтветитьThis game dont even have polish subtitles translation. 70$ game
ОтветитьWhy is it ALWAYS the English translations? I mean, even back then with video games, anime and manga they change some things... not as bad and not as malicious as it is today, but why?
This is one of the reasons I didn't get Rebirth. I got Remake as I was looking forward to it, but after they released the Yuffie DLC Story which was exclusive to PS5 and PC as my PS4 would NOT get it I was so miffed I didn't come back. Never mind the story changes.
It's so hard to enjoy games in English when they do this. I prefer listening in my own language, but it's getting tiresome. Even if I like some changes in English as long as it's as close to the original source material or the change makes sense. Well, that's my Digimon bias.
so basically the translator are clerith zack hater triple homo shipper with seohiroth wana be with too much power and not enough brain....to do their job accurately I kinda want to do the game in Japanese now....
ОтветитьOh man that bit with Marlene and Myrna kinda happened in Remake too but with Betty. They changed that one line where she said she wondered if that oneesan(Aerith) is okay to "I hope my (cat) friends are okay." 😂
ОтветитьWho cares? It’s Just a Game. 🤣
ОтветитьIf they are going to start sexualizing this game then I not buying this game go woke go broke
ОтветитьFire him. TF they doin over there at SENA? 🤦🏾
ОтветитьThanks for this video. To the translator, regardless of your bias and ship, you should be professional in your work. Mistranslating just because you want to is like conflicts of interest in business, you should be fired.
Ответитьi’m just gonna be blunt here so i apologize but aerith fans and cleriths are the shittiest people in the community and it’s unfortunate one happens to be a “translator” for the game
ОтветитьGood thing i always play games with the ova and subtitles. I'm german, i played the game in jap with ger subtitles( because the eng va sucked anyway, no, im not sorry. Ger va sucked too). I always noticed some differences. I compared it to english ver, googled translations, asked chatgpt, etc. Thing is, NEVER trust the localisations in games with voiceacting, especially japanese, because it is not so easy to translate and has SO many things to consider and need to know the context. Besides, you should also google how love and affection is shown in japanese culture. You think Yuna said just "tHaNk yOu" to Tidus in FFX? People are crying about the localisation and yet probably didn't even notice Clouds reaction when Aerith said thank you. They should google first when japanese use the word "like" and "love" for a start. Besides, people REALLLY thought Aerith would say "Shit" in Remake? Lol. That was a mistranslation DUH. Took only 5 years to notice, congratulations!
ОтветитьThe doxing is completely crazy! You should be totally ashamed.
ОтветитьThis is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen in this community.
Targeting an employee for lighthearted tweets they made 5 YEARS AGO is mindboggling. And "casually" this is always rooted in shipping stuff.
1:1 localizations don't work. Full stop. No serious company does it. And no serious company allows random employees to do what they want with the script without thorough supervision of the final work. Especially for the key language that most of non-Japanese speakers use - and that most Japanese SE employees speak as well.
You don't like the localization? Found any mistake (how many? 3-4 mistakes in a 50hours long game? I'd think it twice before calling it a "terrible localization")? Fine. Address the company.
Don't. Personally. Target. Workers.
Don't fuck with my fucking game. Fire that MF. We don't need anyone who will bring their bias into this job.
ОтветитьAmazing video, it's a very recurring issue which has led to me stop playing a lot of SE games altogether, i just know i wont get the actual product but some fanmade version of it and i'm bothered by that, i dont understand why they dont deal with the issue, we are paying the full price we want the full product, simple as that
ОтветитьThey don’t have her say Zach because of all the aerith shippers. Imagine writing a game around not hurting gamers feelings about a fictional female character lol what’s wierder is they only do that for the west. We are hella wierd with fictional characters. We all know it’s aerith and Zach but for some reason people refuse this. No matter how many times she pushes cloud and tifa together, they dnt get it

ОтветитьAs someone who has loved this game since I played it as a kid back in the 90’s and someone who doesn’t necessarily have “ships,” the only thing I want is for the story to be told in the most unadulterated way possible. I want the original story, no changes, just the pure essence. It pisses me off these people are trifling with a game that is so beloved.
ОтветитьI don't get why anyone would defend this, why shouldn't everyone want to play the game as it's meant to be with accurate translations? And it's obvious that there are trust issues, that's why the first thing fans do after playing these games is ask "so how was it in Japanese? is it accurately translated?" Fans shouldn't have these doubts each time, they should be able to trust the localization team blindly.
BTW some of the comments are trying to be sneaky and I can't hep but laugh lol, none of your tiny irrelevant tweaks are big enough to cover for the nakama-bomb that would have exploded over your heads with correct translations, among other things, and you know it and that's why you're crashing out everywhere lmao
I've already seen this stuff in Remake. I for myself play in german, but seen it when watching streamers played it in english.
ОтветитьYou're saying, Matt Furd is not the main focus of your video. I believe that, since you released your video at the speed of light when the drama started, without going much into research about who really translated "First love" into "Boys" (It was Stephen Kohler in "Traces of Two Pasts", 2023). This video could be just about the localization problem in general, yet you collected and presented all his accounts in your video, so the witchhunt could continue. I don't understand why an innocent person deserves this treatment just because you want to ragebait your audience.
ОтветитьI'm reading the comments and it's so funny how exactly at the same hour, the same section raided the video and left the same delusional comments, defending this unprofessionalism (why would anyone defend it??), making it about shipping AND at the same time claiming that the 'other side' is benefitting from mistranslations (make it make sense?? Y'all have got to know there's no logic in what you're saying, right?! 😂).
But more than anything, how about y'all learn the difference between private and public accounts and what doxxing is, cause all this was very much PUBLIC.
There’s being upset at mistranslations, or preferring the Japanese over English localizations.
There is ZERO excuse for these people, including the video creator himself, calling for this sole person, who didn’t even translate the scene they’re complaining about, to be fired.
Jobless scum honestly, get a life.
Conclusion I get, as a PC player, is buy the JP version or any other countries' distributors from one of their storefronts to support the developers, then emulate the superior version.
ОтветитьHow do people like this get hired for the job, seriously. Blows my mind
Ответить
