00:00 - my history working in tech
01:39 - my experience working at Google
07:30 - would I recommend big tech?
08:39 - so what's next?
I quit Google, and here’s why...
Lately I’ve been creating a lot of game development videos and devlogs, but I wanted to give kind of a personal update video with some personal updates.
So in addition to YouTube and game dev, I’ve been working at Google for the last 2 years.
If you’re a computer science student or an early career software engineer, you might here this and be completely shocked on why someone in tech would ever quit Google. And before Google, I was also a technical program manager at Microsoft.
Now I want to first off say, that working at Google from my experience, was really great! Both for technical program managers and software engineers!
But if everything has been great, then why did I leave?
Big tech gave me stability and really taught me how corporate environments operate and scale. But also big tech introduces a lot of office politics and bureaucracy. Additionally, at my level, its hard to feel like you have the ability to have a large impact.
So what’s next for me, well I’ll probably make another video to dive deeper into that but you can probably guess that’ll be a smaller environment based on what I’ve said so far.
Comment down below if you are a computer science student or software engineer and let me know what you think!
