Gaithersburg History Project: Black Gaithersburg: Antebellum Period

The City of Gaithersburg is exploring the history and heritage of the people who are part of the City. The first phase of this project is Gaithersburg's Black history. Anthony Cohen of the Menare Foundation is leading the research and creating a series of talks that illuminate the people and institutions at different time periods. In this talk, we explore the lives of enslaved and free Black residents in the antebellum period before the Civil War and emancipation.
