Such a horrible tragedy not only the plane crashed that killed majority of its traveller but as it crashed on the hostel building of medical students killing doctors is even more horrendous to even think of.

My tentative guess: the crash was either caused by terrorists or a suicidal pilot. Both have happened before.

It was the flaps. That is a simple case of not doing the checklist at takeoff. I'm sick for the families. This is unacceptable.

I've come to a significant realization. The crash of Air India Flight 171 has unfortunately set a new record, and not just for being the first crash of a 787 aircraft. The incident involving Northwest Airlines Flight 255 was previously recognized as the deadliest crash worldwide with a SOLE survivor
-Four-year-old Cecelia Cichan from Arizona— resulting in 156 fatalities. The recent crash is even more devastating. I know this too well, as I lost three loved ones on the Northwest flight. I pray that the sole survivor recovers fully.

I’m not a scientist or anything but how in the world did he survive? He realized the plane was going to crash so he ran up, opened emergency door and jumped out? All in the span of a few seconds?

Yes, the “wings would normally bend during take-off as the lift forces it into the air. But video footage appears to not show that happening, fuelling speculation that the flaps, used to help lift the plane, had been retracted.
The landing gear also remained down, despite it being normal procedure to lift them within a few seconds of clearing the Tarmac.”

But questions remain. Why did the copilot and pilot not notice the error by the seat of their pants — their individual feel of the plane in flight? Why did the plane’s flight system even allow this error to happen — without issuing an immediate warning?

The plane altitude is not yet much, hence one could assume the explosive blast of heat killed majority on board. Plane should carry enough heat extinguisher that could neutraliz the effect of whatever quantity of fuel its carries
