So is the a7iv a 6k equivalent?

I need help with this camera form users!!! I have been using this camera for three years, but every time I turn the camera off, before changing the lens in order to close the shutter and minimize access to dust, the camera takes 5-7 seconds to close the shutter. Is this normal, and if it is, what does camera do after you cut off the power to it? If this is normal function, this camera is not fit for professional use! I had the camera serviced by Sony UK and they say it is normal but cannot explain why, and what does camera do for those 5-7 seconds. I spoke with Sony Technical department but they didn't know any better either. Can any of you users check if your camera does the same and let me know?

If I already have the A7R IV, is it worth swithcing?

I went canon...nondigital look more natural and true ff 35mm no crop at 4k60 on r6 and r6mk2 bodies. Sony has more native and 3rd party than rf mount but i just rf ef adapters for ef third party lenses😂.

Sony a7iv fragile smaller body ok menu confusing cheaper evf and lcd that does not match output results white noise 4k crop ...can overheat and time limit dispite they say it doesnt.

Comes down to which matters more, 33 mp here, or 4k60 with the R6II.

I have watch your videos and reviews before I pull the trigger to purchased my first Mirrorless camera full frame. Any recommendation on what type of memory card should I used for A7 IV that will use both slots simultanious record.. I will used it for street and indoor portraits.. any suggestion?

It is so weird for me that people like these huge grips. For me the moderate grip on a6xxx cameras (inherited by a7c models) is just the best.

The flip out screen is so awesome for vertical shooting. I still shoot a lot with a6000 but i would never buy another hybrid without the flippy. Just ordered two of these A7iv for the team.

It's an amazing camera, the 4K crop in video and the 2nd slot sd card not at the same speed level of the 1st one are maybe the only two defects. I'm really waiting for the ILCE-7M5 next year which should have the IA chip, same state-of-art full articulated monitor of the ILCE-7RM5, the new touch menu and no crop in 4K :)

I process the video from my Sony A7 IV with the Topaz Video AI program, achieving excellent video stabilization and an absolutely smooth full-frame picture at 59.94 FPS (having converted the video using this program from 29.97 FPS). Artificial Intelligence works wonders.

Love the video...I'm stuck between choosing the a7iv or the a7riv. I already have the zv-e1 so the video side is covered. Now I want a camera for photos...love the new menu and all the new bells and whistle the a7iv has but the a7riv with its 61mp is very enticing. The only thing I'm worried about is the auto focus of the a7riv compared to the a7iv. What would you recommend?

Is the low light performance the same as the a7siii ?

Excellent video. I've got a 14 yo Sony A350 that despite having some decent lenses, I usually just take my A5100 with me because the A350 is a dinosaur. It is time to look for a new Sony and the a7 IV is one of the top contenders. Thanks for the thorough review.

Cut the strap cuffs off? Hehe, you really have two left hands if you do that. Somebody put them on using no tools, so you can take them off using no tools.

Does it get hot while recording 4K?

Sony has started to do what CaNikon used to do. Incredibly slow incremental upgrades, and then charging their victims extortionate amounts of wonga for the privilege.

Luckily Canon and Nikon have super upped their game . Booyaaaah!

Also Sony has the worst aftercare service, warranty is useless. Make sure you get the extended cover. You have been warned.

The only thing they seem to be doing right, is taking care of their army of social media influencers 😅 its definitely working for them.

@jasonvong I’m ready to upgrade from my A7iii. I shoot mostly photos. Everything from travel/landscape/waterfalls to grand kids sports. A7iv or a7rv?

"Real time tracking is so fast"... Yes, to my experience it is much faster than actual focusing which leaves you with at best 70% of sharp images for sports.
Oh, and try the wide area AF with a blond girl with light-coloured eyes. Some times the A7iv couldn't even find the subject !
Remember also that the EVF refresh rate goes down to 10 FPS when you're shooting at 10 FPS. So if your subject is moving, you'll quickly lose it.
In short, this camera is very nice for portrait or landscape, but it should not be considered at all for action.

The new new new menu system may be "better" but the reality is that I had mastered the old menu system and had no issues. Now I will have to learn a new one, and all on the altar of "better".

Great video. Is it normal for the A74 to make a sensor shaking noise and vibration when I tun it on? I tried turning off images stabilization and it still does it.

Nice camera. Please advise what sony lenses compatible with this Sony A7IV

The colors look so different between the A7 III and A7 IV in your split-screen video side-by-side. Did both cameras have roughly the same settings? The A7 IV footage had a yellow tint that didn't look flattering on skin, while the A7 III footage had more of a red tint that looked much better on skin (and more true to life). What's the deal? Is the A7 IV color science a step backward?

nice review. The green face detection feet-head at 7min30 is what i try to have without success !!! square on face appears when i am in a situation like 7min33, too late :-( I am in mode A, af-c, zone tracking focus area

Recently bought this as an upgrade from my old Canon 90D … absolutely in love.

The crop is to prevent cannibalising their s line. It will be updated via software in 18 months. Imho

اThe thing I hated about the a74 was the overheating problem, even though the settings were set to high. It's a shame that's why I sold it and bought an a7s3 that you can rely on in any harsh conditions.

if i want great depth of field i can use Photoshop to edit :), they only can say sensor in Full frame cams is sooo big that they only thing this is what they need, to be hones if in full frame cam you want do very sharp image in full frame you need smaller your aparture to the size of iphone sensor which is so funny.....Second point is that iphone use so great software and algorithms inside that they can improve images so much that you dont need expensive lens. Iphone is not only the lens and 48 px sensor now, this is also software at back which was developed by 10 or more years by best coders at word. Sony or Canon only has big sensor nothing more better than iphone. But what i said you only need big sensor maybe in 5% of cases for depth field but even this is not issue when you know how to use Photoshop :)

It crops at 4K60 apparently. Supposedly it’s a full frame camera. It shouldn’t have the crop. This thing is crazy expensive too. You might as well grab the a7siii if you want one of these. It overheats like crazy too shooting videos. Get the Panasonic S1H or the GH6 if you want that. They have fans in them.

Hello brother. I need help. So basically I was changing lenses and a little bit of spit got on my shutter that was covering the sensor on my A7IV, It evaporated but left a dark little smudge i can still see on the shutter. Images still come out fine. Is there a way to safely, properfly clean the shutter? Thank you .

Amazing video. I was lucky lately that on one photo shoot of a Lamborghini Contach I met a guy with a Sony A7IV and another brand of lens and I swapped my Sony A7 mark 1 with the Sony 24-105 G lens him for 10 minutes to try them out. It was an interesting swap. I did notice that the A7IV was much heavier than the A7 mark 1. However the A7IV was a much better camera than mine.

I’ve been in the market for a new camera. I am a cinematographer who does photography as well. Would you recommend this A7IV or the FX3? I’m new to Sony, coming over from Canon’s ecosystem.

i dont know how big your influence is over at sony, but it would be awesome if you could bring up the eye-AF issue. the one where having aperture wide open and the subject close results in the focus being on the eyebrow instead of the eye. other than that issue, i love my a7iv :D
