it's wild how the race organizers go through all these work-arounds to avoid the chicane to the Arenberg when really they could do a better job on the cobbles than what a 13th century peasant might do. I'm not saying make it totally smooth or incase it in concrete, but if a single rider with peak CX skills in excellent weather conditions can come unstuck like that, imagine what will happen to the peloton.
