RE3MAKE is the first step back downhill.

Ya know, I found Mr. X really annoying before, but now that I'm armed with the idea he's just trying to share his opinions on anime with me (and show me his One Punch Man impersonation); I'm gonna just giggle every time I see him now.

I don't get why Yahtzee reveres RE7 that much. It was a solid game for the first 2/3rds but as soon as you leave the mansion it turns into an unmitigated boring slog. Shooting dozens of stupid lookin black goop monsters in narrow corridors on an ugly underlit ship is not what I want out of an RE game.

I want the dynamic level design with items that unlock doors and puzzles all across the gigantic puzzlebox as you carefully plan routes zig zagging throughout the halls finding new things. RE2 is only behind the REmake in this category. RE7 is a little behind both of them. It's let down hugely by the last 3rd of the game, I still haven't replayed it because I don't want to go through it again.

TLDR old bitter man whinges about people liking a great game he holds a grudge against for some reason. Don't mind whiny McCrybaby up there, the game was great.

I just wanted to say I do enjoy these reviews. However, I have to disagree with this notion that 7 is the best. The goofy plot and cheesy dialogue/character decision making is a huge part of the series legacy and charm. I felt that 7, while being darker, sucked most of the soul out of the series in every way save the gameplay, which was very good. I feel 2 remake is a way to play both the best of the genre (that resident evil defined) and the best of the series

Hate to say it but after having played these games. RE7 sucked, RE4 sucked, 2 and 3 were good, 8 was good.

Shouldn't lump Revelations 2 there because it's the last RE game before the radical restructuring that features the perfect blend of horror and action as well as the best controls

So I love 2 way more than I like 7... well I don't like 7 so xD (not a fan of ego perspective)

Also have never played 2 the original, I wasn't even alive yet when that came out.

It's not even true to the original. The original didn't make you fight the same bosses no matter if you were Leon, Claire, or A or B scenario.

What I'm confused about is why they remade 2 first and not 1

Resident Evil is one of my favorite game series, and I know RE2 is considered to be the best, but it was the one I liked the least. I always thought that Claire Redfield was a mistake. A college student going to check if her military brother needed rescue makes no sense. Also, the environments weren't as scary and there were fewer bosses and puzzles compared to RE1. I always thought it was a downgrade and never understood why people considered RE2 to be a better game.

As someone who had never played any Resident Evil game before RE7 (besides trying Code Veronica X once and having a terrible time with it), I much prefer the RE2 Remake as a whole game to RE7, and as what I look for in RE games as a newcomer. It still works as a horror game, but I much prefer the RE2 settings, characters, and story.

RE2 was great, RE2 remake was odd. Like making the original feel like a stereotypical modern game with more "cool action" and less tension, squirming in your imagination wondering. It would've been better as remaster than remake. The way you make a good remake is what they did to RE1. The first one was much more rough to play, and the REmake was so good that when recommending Resident Evil, people, I included, recommended just skipping the original altogether because the original had nothing going for it that the REmake didn't, but the REmake was so much better and more (but not too much, they didn't make that mistake). The RE2 remake however felt more like "oh you don't like old games, here's a new game BAM BOOM COOL". But the remake of the third one was worse than the second. I'd still recommend to play REmake, RE2 and 3 originals. Not that RE2 remake was trash, it just had the yawning factory of "am I supposed to be impressed? And why do the characters look so odd?".

And now they're remaking the 4th that is the most re-released game probably ever of any games, has remasters and hd remasters and whatnot. And the original is still a masterpiece, what did it have to require remaking? Despite that, they had put a neat new spin to it in the trailers tonight. It did look very different, which I'm a fan of since they decided to remake it. But do you know what game is the one truly in dire need of remaking instead of all these playable and good original games? That's right, Deadly Premonition. It's a prime example of a really interesting story and game world, really neat ideas, while at the same time truly crippled by its releases. The pc release is still barely finishable with 5 fan patches and the playability on the technical side still suffers greatly.

I really hate the notion that having standards equates to being a harsh critic.

My one real criticism of this review is that it seems like Yahtzee forgot this game takes place in the 90s and that's why Claire doesn't use Facebook or a cell phone in order to contact her brother.

Forget Village, RE2 is the true fusion of Resident Evils 4 & 7 with the slower more claustrophobic horror and the third person action gameplay and I am all for that.

I did not think Yahzee liked "Your Name." Simply because he is such a heartless bastard that any romance story seems like pissing on fire. Enjoyable from the release and sound, but the smell of burning urine and burning flesh does seem to hamper the experience on the whole.

Had to wait to watch until I played it myself to avoid spoilers (haven't played any OG, but playing through remakes) and OMG I could not believe when I was getting chased in a SAFE ZONE by that huge thing like wtf, truly a masterpiece

I just beat RE2 for the second time. Once as Leon on Standard which i then accidentally switched to baby mode at the end, and once on a Claire second run on Hardcore. It was decidedly okay, and I say that as a big fan of the original RE4 this borrowed so much from mechanically.

My biggest criticism is that for as impressive as it could be, it wasnt nearly as fun as that game I played on the Nintendo Gamecube. Resident Evil doesnt have the writing or acting chops to play a strictly serious storyline and RE2-Remake takes itself fairly seriously for a game whose story is as dull and shallow as it is. RE4 changed 3rd person shooters, but i guess if RE2 remake did anything, it provided a clear path for a better game to get remade.

I disagree about Ethan having more personality than Leon

Finally playing this as my first ever RE game, and yes as ever the boss battles are the worst part of the game - a tactical stealth game where all of a sudden you're tossed into a small room with RE's version of the Hulk and expected to fight it head on.
Ok, I'm not looking forward to Mr X's first appearance but having to run and hide from him seems more in tune with the rest of the game than the Gladiator arena fights with William Birkin.

I don’t understand people that do have nostalgic love for this game can like this game. It’s fine. I guess it’s better than the Nemesis remake which was just done all wrong.

We played the remakes, and all three times while playing we just ended up asking ourselves why we didn’t just fire up the old ps2 and play the originals. So we did.

I am soooo glad I wasn't the only one that thought the Claire / Leon interaction scenes were awkward and underscored by that weird sexual tension one might expect from a middle schooler; where you don't know how to tell the girl you like her. Really breaks the immersion of zombie survival horror

I only just started playing this game (yes I know late to the party) but holy shit he’s actually spot on about Leon and Claire’s interactions, I burst out laughing at how awkward their talking is during the fence scene

I strangely enjoy Yahtzee ruining my enjoyments with these modernized remakes. It's like he gives the voice to what I thought but had no words for.

This guy misses the mark on everything regarding remakes but at least the animations are nice
