I know this is old, but it's one of my favorite episodes because you can clearly see how passionate he is about this movie.
I never really thought about it before, but as somebody who makes props for film and theatre myself I love thinking about practical effects, and I never noticed the underwater scene dilemma.
Depending on the reason for why the ship has to leave the water at an angle, the easiest explanation would have been to just build the set at an angle then your second explanation works just fine. It still leaves the water in a linear path, it's just at an angle.
Maybe it needed to be at an angle for the effect they were actually using, maybe it's because the director felt going straight up didn't look real enough. Assuming there is an actual reason, the person who made it just needed to make everything at an angle and film it at a counter angle to make it appear it was level. The only reason you wouldn't do that is if there was no actual reason to do it.
Do more of these! I loved this!!
ОтветитьThis wasn’t Sarah Jessica Parker’s first role. She was in at least Footloose two years earlier.
Great movie, though.
I feel like Alan could pull off a good captain D costume for Halloween or something
ОтветитьIf there was a way to like this video more than once, I would!
Ответить"...Back then things had to be figured out..."
Alan
wait you had this movie in the USSR?
ОтветитьIs this the only movie ever that portrayed NASA as the bad guys?
ОтветитьJeez. I don't know how I expected the movie to be made, but.... holy crap!

Ответитьdo it. we want to see a movie directed by you, just do it.
ОтветитьThe mix of REAL LIFE footage and CGI using an ANALOG (... so to say...) BLENDER is what make these movies unique and more (some what) believable than current contemporary modern movies.
ОтветитьBecause The Internet
ОтветитьFlight of the Navigator and Explorers were such imagination inducing movies from the 90's. So many fond momemories watching those movies on the floor with my family. Old bowl shaped TV screens and VHS. XD
ОтветитьI wish I could watch this like 100 times. Oh wait, I can!!
ОтветитьI’ve watched too many of your videos to be fooled by the fact that the UI in the shots of you “outside” the locations weren’t just an attempt to hide the fact that they are blue/green screened
ОтветитьAs an artist myself, matte painters who work for film are mad scientists to me. It's magical work they do. It still blows my mind how many matte paintings I just accepted in movies I've watched and loved. Like in Star Wars, especially the one of the army on the Death Star. It's just a flat painting but it feels so real!
ОтветитьAmazing
Ответить‘ChapeDrone’ lol
Ответитьbeing the same age as the creator, i too was deeply impacted by this movie. great work always Mr. M. Keep living.
ОтветитьThis is how they SHOULD'VE done the bluray extras
Ответитьthis movie changed my life in the 90's. thank you!
ОтветитьLet's not get over-flowery about Captain D's nostalgia attack , or his love of "feelm", he just ran out of silver paint makeup....
ОтветитьNow this was incredible!
ОтветитьI absolutely love what you did here. Thank you thank you. Hey where you made the vacuform piece that looks pretty legit did you use something from the production to make the form?
ОтветитьHey I know this video was a pile of work. I wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed it and I hope you do another video like this again.

ОтветитьSo I've been watching this channel off an on for about 5 years. Amazing stuff, but that whole thing about the ship coming out of the hangar and the way the mirrors are set up to hide the mini rig. That shit blew my mind. So simple but so damn amazing!
ОтветитьAbsolutely ridiculous. Insane process..
ОтветитьThanks for completely explaining the Shuftan shot. I'd seen the setup photos, but didn't realize that it was a double-reflection gag.
