2025 Audi S5 First Drive & A5 Review! Audi is BACK!

All New Audi A5 and S5! Say hello to the replacement of the #Audi A4 and #A5 series, the all new Audi A5 in sedan and avant forms, and the flagship #AudiS5! And they are some of the best looking cars Audi has ever made!

This is a real treat for us, a whole new ICE model. Audi have been released a tonne of new EVs the last few years like most car makers, as they planned to go full electric in what felt like next week — and as wonderful as that sounds to some, that is a goal they recently pushed back big time, following the likes of VW, Mercedes and others — all thanks to customer reticence. We have made our voices loud and clear, and we’re not ready for all electric yet.

Now Audi has a new CEO, one looking to take things back to the brand’s roots — Gernot Döllner. Veteran at vw group, was project manager of 918 Spyder and Panamera. The previous ceo was let go thanks to major model delays, and leaving behind the competition. Dollner comes in to bring back three words we’ve not heard in the last few years from Audi:

Vorsprung durch Technik

Döllner said when making his plan the board at Ingolstadt had “some quite intense discussion” regarding the brand. And things are already looking up with a new Q5 and now this A5 series! AND UNLIKE many car makers going facelift crazy on old models trying to avoid new speeding on combustion - these areas genuinely all new models based on a whole new PPC platform. So more ICE cars, mild hybrids, and plug ins in Audis future. And of course, the likes of a new RS5 on the horizon too!

New Direction and Platform:
The A5 and S5 have combined the outgoing A4/S4 and A5/S5 model lines. The sedan/saloon now a hatchback much like the previous A5, and our Avant is as before — both are longer and wider as is the trend!

The design is a real highlight though - with a wider grille, with Matrix LED headlights which offer 8 selectable light signatures. Same with the rear, where we have OLEDs with 60 segments per panel. These even have car-to-x comms, allowing the vehicle to signal to other road users in traffic scenarios.

Performance and Powertrains

The New A5 features the new MHEV plus system in the diesel and S5 - it’s a 48-volt Mild Hybrid System with a “powertrain generator” or PTG which gives a 24ps power boost, and also feeds energy back into the battery - and unlike other “mild hybrids”, this plus system gives limited electric only driving in parking and short manoeuvres!

Engines at launch:
* Petrol - 2.0 TFSI with 150PS, 280nm, 0-62mph in 9.8 secs
* Diesel - 2.0 TDI 204PS, 400Nm, 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds (also in Quattro)

A5 Saloon starts at £41k (Avant adds £1,900) which is good value — and later we will have Plug ins coming with over 100km range EV only.

All models benefit from big developments in chassis with a focus on steering and suspension systems, trying to make the car more dynamic. All models have the s tronic twin clutch Gearbox, no manual available..

Inside, it’s properly all new Audi in here! The SKATEBOARD display and a new Virtual Cockpit features an all new OS, so new we’re actually missing some customisation we had before — but it’s much easier to use as you’ll see. The system has a more intelligent vocal assistant using ChatGPT’s Ai to help better with in car functions and general knowledge. We also get a dynamic glass panoramic sunroof, massaging seats, and a dynamic ambient light bar. Top specs also see HUD, steering assistance, 360-camera and more.

The S5

The S5 ditches the diesel for a 3.0L V6 TFSI engine, delivering 367PS, 550Nm of torque! A welcome change. Revised S-tronic gearbox is designed for more torque, and is lighter on front, paired with the hybrid plus system to give some pure electric movement too.

It comes with performance tyres, Sport Suspension with damper control, Audi’s Sport Quattro Differential and REAL exhaust pipes at the rear! For launch, the S5 exclusively offered in Edition 1 specification priced from £68,700. This puts it against rivals from BMW and AMG, namely the 340i xdrive at 59k - and the
C43 at 67.5k. We will discuss which we like today!

With these new models, Audi looks to return to its roots under its new CEO, focusing on Vorsprung durch Technik. The A5 and S5 are the first in the fight back, let’s find out if they’re a step in the right direction!
