Full watch here, great comparison video, over the years I have found hobs suck, no matter brand. They always. Need cleaning , impellers stop easy, look ugly on the tanks, have to prime if pumpout the the water , out of all the hobs I have uses or still using as a back up/new tank starter, the aqueon hobs quiet flows have been the best all around for less cost. Canister filters are way better than anything for multiple reasons, EVEN BETTER THAN TOUR BELOVED SUMPS BEN!! 😂

The Aquatech hob’s I have on two tanks clog and pour over the intake section usually biweekly, I think it’s time to diy their set ups👍

Ben,

Great review ty for telling us about the pluses and minuses or the HOB by Hygger. I use all Tidal Filters on my tanks. On my 55 gal plants I use a tidal 75 and 55. On my MBUNA tank I use two Tidal 110s. On my 20 long I use tidal 35. They are great filters I love the customization of them.

Speaking of filters Ben you really need to check out the Marineland 400 their new design is awesome even the trays sit together better you don't have to mess with them to get them to fit together also the head comes with the O-ring already installed

Ben, I would also add the original filters have built in obcelencence, you have to constantly purchase more because of their lack of ability to be maintained. Your alternative fix solves that problem.
Many people don't consider that with a bit of lateral thinking they can make the system better, and think oh that's the way it works so I have to keep buying replacements that add to the ongoing costs of the filter.
Somewhat like changing the media in your Canister Filters, what they come with may not be the best option in YOUR situation.

Ben,…your message basically applies to all hob filter brands…..even higher end brands (Fluval, Oase, Eheim, etc). However I don’t think your request of Hygger/any others will happen as it takes away a revenue stream that provides repetitive for high-profit yields. 🤷‍♂️🇨🇦

I think buying sponge for my hang on back. it seems a good way to save money. the filter cartridge that go with tetras hob are hard to clean all the way. a sponge I can squeeze it to clean it.

The thing that I NEVER liked about those is that the cartridges block 50% of the water flow with solid plastic and slots.

All those filter cartridges are a gimmick any way. Adding your own like you did is the way to go.👍
