God Give Me Strength - Kristen Vigard

God give me strength!! Please wipe him from my memory and heart !

Is it intentional that she is singing this with practically no emotion or nuance? Is Douglas's character supposed to be an uninteresting singer? I mean clearly Kirsten Vigard has more to offer than what she is doing here. The singing doesn't match the drama Douglas is putting into the physical performance. This is a brilliant song. Elvis Costello and Burt Bachrach collaborated beautifully on it.

I would really love for someone, someday, to explain to me why on the soundtrack album of this emotional, cathartic, woman-centric film about the challenges of being a woman in the music business, that this version of this song was booted in favor of the Elvis Costello/Burt Bacharach version. Appalling still.

A very underrated movie. Good performances for the main actors. Awesome soundtrack, especially this song.

Better acted than sung. Such a wonderful tune and she’s a nice timbro in her voice but Costello’s version was so full of accent, and had a shivering vocal rhythm

I was a mgr at a movie theater and we would do press screenings in the mornings so I got to watch so many incredible movies the night before in the 90s early aughts and this 1 was of them. I love this movie and I watch this clip all the time.

Excellent movie saved on my DVR so I can watch it anytime I want. I suspect it was loosely based on Carole King, who had a husband commit suicide.
