Another rule in Japan if a woman who is single and farts in front of you, if it smells like fish (which is usually the case because they eat allot of seafood) and if your standing in front of her and your eyes meet she is instantly your new wife😂

Also never approach strangers or say hi or make eye contact as a foreigner, coming from California we normally approach girls, guys and are very friendly and outgoing. I learned quickly the Japanese don't do that ( how anyone meets in this country is still a mystery to meet) haha. But my girlfriend who's from Sapporo taught me the "rules"

Japanese are very gracious people. You will be forgiven for violating their unspoken rules as long as you are not being an a**hole. That said, if you're there long enough, you will meet the rare and random a**hole who will confront you. Yes, even Japan has some very rude and intolerant people. Be kind. Be considerate. Be apologetic. You'll be just fine.

Surprisingly, we went in Golden week this year and it was perfectly fine. We stayed in Tokyo for the whole of Golden week for very cheap, and then went to Kyoto just after and saved money because that's a low season for them in Kyoto

Just a note to say tax free shopping only applies if you don't use the item in Japan. Memory cards for cameras can be incredibly expensive in Japan so it's tempting to ask for the discount. But if you pop it into your camera and use it then you may have to pay the tax at the airport. They flag-up sales like these on your passport, so be ready to show the goods when you leave the country, and they need to be in an unopened pack.

As an Aussie, I laugh at the "oppressive heat" comment, that is a beautiful days weather and only makes me wanna go to japan in summer even more now!!

I lived in Tokyo for 3 years back in the 90's and this video is probably the best I've seen regarding rules in Japan. Dai Sho!
