HOW TO USE YOUR ROTARY CUTTER - 10 TIPS FOR BETTER RESULTS

I'm sorry if my question sounds stupid, but does the rotary's cutter rolls as it cuts or does it stay in place?

Just wanted to mention that I use a glass suction cup tool that I bought from Harbor Freight for $6 for my rulers when cutting. It helps me to apply extra pressure without my fingers being the way not to mention that it's pretty long and gives me coverage for the entire length of my rules. I haven't tried the medical tape option yet, so I'm excited to try that! Your videos are awesome! Thank you for all that you do!

I am a beginner quilter, entirely due to your wonderful videos: always so clear and well explained. I’ve been working my way through them in order BUT all of a sudden there’s background music all the way though 😱. I have hearing issues and background music is really intrusive: it prevents me from hearing you properly. I love your videos so much because there’s no unnecessary waffle and gimmicks, just really good clear advice delivered in your friendly and supportive way. Please could you drop the music?

Can’t find one that actually cuts. Any suggestions on brand?

Hello ....do you recommend a cutting pad .... I usually lay fabric on my concrete floor....?? Regarding circular disc cutter

I woukd probably still get it wring. I am almost terrible. I sont get it ataright. The esge is not eight. I thought rotor was problem at the fold.

This is a great video, however I find the background music is distracting. It's OK when you have it turned up to fill in empty space, but when you speak over it, I have a hard time separating your voice from the music. Either I am old or maybe I am ADHD, but either way, it's very difficult to listen to just YOU and tune out the music (even 'though it's not very loud at all).

Is the blade supposed to roll as you cut? I’m having a hard time finding this answer.

Karen what are the best rotary blades for my Fiskers cutters…..I have 2 packages of Fiskers blades and they are useless, won’t cut well through 2 layers of cotton…..they slip but are new blades…I’m going to through them out…

What if you're going around corners or in a circle?

As always I love your videos. One thing you hardly hear about anymore but is important especially with lined prints, is before cutting, stretch the fabric. If linear until the lines are perfect 90 degrees otherwise so the threads are 90 degrees to each other, Sometime it can make a big difference

Oh my goodness, I have the flare on the top of my fabric when I cut. I was wondering if I need to see an optician. Now that I know how to use my rotary cutter and ruler as shown in your Video, I can avoid flares and Optician 🙃

This video has been so helpful. I will definitely be watching her other videos. It is nice to know the proper way to cut. I was watching a video the other day from a different content creator and they used they didn't move around when using their rotary cutter so some of the cuts were towards themself, not away. Not very safe in my opinion.

I’m so glad I found this video. In 2 days I’ve change my 4 cutters twice because it skips. I’m frustrated because I want to begin quilting. But I can’t cut straight. My ruler slips. Cutter doesn’t cut with new blades and I’m having lower back problems with steroid injections for compressed spinal nerves. This week had injections and nerve burning. I want to learn to quilt really bad. I’m 73 yr old,retired RN and had 2 back surgeries. I’m desperate. I’ll try your techniques. Thank you so much. Yes blades are very expensive!

Great video Karen! When I first started out (only three years ago), I was helping my mother with a project. She had me cut the fabric on a card table. There was a bow in all the cuts. It turned out the pressure I was applying was actually bowing the flimsy table, creating a curve in every cut. So, having a stable surface is also important.
