At the initial days when/if China invade Taiwan, the deciding factor is the air dominance. Taiwan has 7,000 anti air missiles and more than 400 fighter jets while the US in Okinawa has many F22/F35. Air dominance would be in favor of the Taiwan/US (& Japan) side. It's hard to imagine how the Chinese invasion proceeds without air power.

China: "We propose signing a pact that says that we will not interfere with the US consumption of these chips and will offer a much better price"
The US 0.2 seconds later: "Do you invade Taiwan or do you want me to invade them for you my new best friend?"

The reason why the PRC will not succeed at invade is because of the CCP.

A landing operation in the east would be nearly impossible because of Taiwans geographics. In the west there are only a handful of potential beaches an they are very well to defend. China would lose tenthousands of troops in a landbased invasion at least.

The PLA Navy lacks the sea lift capacity to invade in the numbers given in the video. Their sea lift capacity is about 50k.

I reckon after all this crap Taiwan should be recognised as a total independent country. The UN ought to try doing something useful for a change

If Taiwan ever becomes independent some time in the future, it would have been because United States helps them. Without help from United States, Taiwan will not likely be independent. United States will be a big deciding factor on whether Taiwan ultimately becomes fully independent.

Taiwan does have it's history as a Staging area and military base during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War and supplied translators and spies for taskwork on behalf of the Imperial Japanese Army .If we'd consider the historical security problem and mitigate our high profile show of support in arms and gestures of a hands on involvement with something more like a quiet but steady support in unannounced sufficient but not excessive supply of arms without accompanying threats from every other US Military leader with a live mic in reach, chances of Taiwan as a destabilizing factor in the relationship between East and West will be eased.

The more we look like taking Taiwan in as a client state rather than the simple appearance of non-aligned. independence then the more destabilizing it becomes. China's pols are as full of hot air as our pols are. If ours would stfu and ignore theirs for a few days then they'd probably stfu too and focus on business with every trading partner.

And other issues in the South China Sea just might be easier to settle in some cases . . . like compensation to other Spratly Island claimants might be a start if not applicable to other disputes. China seemed to posture itself to that direction if we could just step back and try not to act like a commercial sea-lane presence that's negotiated between claimants is a threat to the world more so than in the interest of a growing economic power's security.

Fishing rights are another matter better solved by negotiation. With some luck maybe some quotas might be adhered to for the mutual benefit of neighbors that haven't emptied the Pacific of Tuna just yet . . . no bets on that one, lol.
