Mudaliwatta / Balana Fort

Mudaliwatta is a beautiful village located in Kadugannawa town. The village was played major role during the Kandian war. The Balana fort, and main observation posts are located in this village ( Balumgala and kodigahakanda). The fort was built by king Wimaladarmasooriya 1st (1594-1604) to protect and defend Kandian kingdom from enemies. in 1597 Lopes De Sousa (Protuguese) was ambushed and defeated in campaign of Danthuree. The battle was lead from Balana fort and this Mudaliwatta area.
According to the history the leader of this area was "Amunupura Mudali". The king gave him this land (Mudaliwatta) as gift.
