Nice solenoid jump idea.
The seat switch bypass is the first thing I do on my mowers.
That pulley, did the bearing look ok? If so and if the deck was bent/weakened there, weld a backer plate under it.

Besides that, I look no where near as nice as Jen when I mow. Or when I don't. Thanks for sharing.

I've had cars I had to jump the solenoid to run, Good tip though, hopefully save a few people from running out for a new battery when that's not the problem, I'm going to watch the other part, that pulley looked seriously bent

I love the "wasn't me" from Jen. I had a Dixie Chopper back in the day. Let's just say that Blue Loctite is your friend.

My solution would have been as follows: First kick the bejabbers out of it. Then if that did not work, I would call a repairman. So simple. I bet you never thought of that.

Logical thinking. Why should a homeowner spend more money on a commercial type of mower when just a residential type will cut the grass as the same. It's not like you are out mowing for a business. The homeowner just needs to mow the lawn once or twice a week. It's not being used every day. Great points Exoman.

Have a Hustler Raptor also. Great mower and the 2nd Raptor I've owned. Had to replace the spindles and the belt on the first one. So far I am completely happy with the Hustler brand

Sometimes the zero turn mower will get out and it's always funny to find the zero-turn moving about on the trailer when it's supposed to be in its box

Bushings on the starter and bushings on deck I bet.

I have a 2017 raptor. I've had to weld the frame 2 or 3 times. It broke on the back allowing the drive belt to come off the pulleys at the top. Bought a fastrak last year and it's so much better.

Um did you not noticed she tried to start it with the handles in and not locked? The safety won't allow it to start unless they're in the parked position.

May help to store mower out of the rain. With all of the deck rust, apparent mower is being left out in the weather. Mower is bogging down due to bad bearings in spindles and idler pulleys. Can rebuild for less than $7 each or replace for $27 each for spindles and $17 for idler pulleys. Hint: You mentioned you replaced the belt. With the rounded edges showing on a new belt is a tell that mower is experiencing drag from the bad bearings that are like driving a car with the park brake engaged. well first, she tried to start it with the handles in... they will not start with the handles in.

Perfect video for my issue of not starting. I was able to bypass the seat wires, like you showed. I used a screwdriver to complete the circuit on the solenoid, to start it. I then replaced the solenoid and that was the issue!

The exact same thing happened to my exact mower. Thanks for explaining how to diagnose; i did have to watch this 6 times to make sure but It got it figured out.

I personally engaged my sd48 many times n ruined my deck. I took all pulleys off n reinforced the deck with plating and now it’s fine. Also local hardware store had the sealed bearings for all spindles.

Help. When you jump using Solenoid, is ignition key in On position. Never done this. Seems it'd be On.

Finally got her to start (using needlenose Wire Cutters that, ironically, I too found in the street!). Got mower back into garage. When I shut off engine, then for kicks tried firing her up again (the regular method, not jumping off the Solenoid)-- first nothing, then crank-no-start, then finally started up. Do you think Seat Safety Switch, or the Solenoid is going bad or your guess?

What's the part number for that Solenoid you jumped?

Mower won't start when the handlebars are pulled in like when she was on the mower and tried to start it. The parking brake is integrated with the handlebars. It started when you tried because the handlebars were out in the parked position.

They sell a kit to fix the bending pulley issue

That's your problem it needs a new pull shaft

I would definitely buy another. I have the flip up to get to the blades easier. Perfect once you remember there instructions and steps. It’s 5 years old. And 400 plus hours. I’m just this year starting to have problems with it. Probably operator error issues. No start belts electric. Would get a new one no question about it. But they don’t make them anymore

My 2013 looks ten years newer. Hustler invented the "Zero Turn" and this is just an entry-level mower. I take my deck off every fall clean it and treat any rust mine is a Fastrak SD 48", fabricated decks are 100% better than stamped decks. You are correct you get what you pay for...maintenance should be done every fall. How it started with the transmissions engaged is beyond me. I can hear the deck bearings whine. Also changing the belt and proper tension helps. -

make shure you get serviceable transmissions hyro gear zt 2800s zt 3100s and up are serviceable below the series ive mentioned are sealed and cant be serviced servicing saves and prolongs tranny life sealed trannys have to be replaced always look under at trannys if you see a black cover on each tranny for example hydro gear zt 2800 or zt 3100 and up 3200 3400 3600 3800 4400 and 5400 these are all serviceable meaning you drain the transmissions of there 20/50 motor oil and oil filter re add to correct level in expansion tanks yes the plastic with 20/50 motor oil replace filter and on each tranny youll have a full plug and a bleeder and then you purge the air out of the tranbys if not done right will damage transmissions and yes the damn expensive and they arent giving them away for free the 2800s are residential grade serviceable and the 3100s are commercial grade yes ive been a small engine mechanic since i was five yes i started young and just hit 55 so ive been at it a while and dont be hesitent to garbage pick /aka curb side shopping thats how i got most of everything also nieghbors friends family etc you get the point auctions as well garage sales estate sales list is endless temember this period anther persons trash is another persons treasure theres a lot of great stuff at the road side just know what to look for engines need spark fuel and compression always rotate them to check compression later with guage check for spark old engines points and condencer new engines electronic old engines ajustible carbs new non ajustibles and check oil its oil is thick black dark sludge it for parts if the oil is still a liquid theres a chance and hope also craigslist and facebook marketplace are great as well
