Soft Maple Sugar Cookies

I'm a little lack luster today, but these sweet cookies aught to make up for that. These have been a favorite among my family and friends for years. I hope you like them as well.

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
1/2 shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 pure maple syrup
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cream of tartar
1/8 tsp salt
3 egg yolks
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cups flour

Directions

Preheat oven to 300° F. With an electric mixer, beat together the butter and shortening on high for 30 seconds. Add in sugar, brown sugar, maple syrup, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt and beat until combined. Beat in egg yolks and vanilla until combined. Beat in the flour a little at a time until it's all combined.
Drop dough by 1 inch balls, 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Try not to over crowd them because they spread a lot while they bake. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned. It took 13 minutes for mine. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy!
