ОтветитьBroken tech is one of my PET peeves
ОтветитьPoking a metal screwdriver into the vent holes of a CRT sounds like a terrible idea.

ОтветитьI took a BASIC class in school in 7th grade back in 1983 and we used PETs. I remember always carrying several 5.25" floppies along with my books and folders in my backpack for that class (which seemed very cool and high tech at the time 😄). 👍
ОтветитьIs there an ic on those keyboards that would prevent the continuity?
ОтветитьI’ll bet they are more than just a few hundred dollars now.
ОтветитьThat is a really cool looking computer.
ОтветитьWhen I was at university in the 1990s a friend found a fully functional PET 8032 in a skip/dumpster and gave it to me.
I sold it for quite a bit of cash in about 2020 because I just didn't have any space for it. Prices on ebay are crazy at the moment.
great troubleshooting fix. I love watching the process of figuring it out. nice and ez too.

ОтветитьI had the same dim CRT problem when I booted up an old computer a while ago, my dad needed me for something and I forgot to turn off the machine. Two hours later I came back and realized that the monitor somehow got brighter, if a CRT is ever dim like that, it probably just needs time to get warmed up.
ОтветитьGreat video. Can you explain how the Pet has Commodore Basic 4.0 v C64 Commodore Basic 2.0?
ОтветитьI realized that some old computer are always broken in the monitor or the keyboard.
Ответитьi see that is 4016
Ответитьmy dead dog
ОтветитьI believe the chip you found was call Toolbox or such. It was an after market item which added functionality for programing. I can only remember one or two of the commands - there were about 10 as best as I can recall. My favorite was "renumber" This renumbered all of the lines of code by some amount. For example the command "renumber 10, 10" would start at line 10 and renumber all subsequent lines in 10 increments. It did not work on the "gosub" command, as I recall.(That is more or less how the renumber worked but I'm sure the command is not absolute correct) There was also a "trace" command and a "step" command and more I believe. It's been about 50 years (I am 90 years old now) since I've programed a Pet so my memory is a bit dim! Besides PC are much more fun to use.
ОтветитьThis is the best thing I ever saw.
Ответитьdid you ever find out what that SYS Command did yet?
ОтветитьYou could have kept going with the pencil, although the longevity seems kind of questionable.
ОтветитьI remember watching this a while back, dem memories.
ОтветитьI did a quick search on PAICS, and SYS 40960 runs a program on the ROM called PicChip that adds graphics commands to BASIC.
Ответитьi wish i had your patience great job
ОтветитьIt’s been 5 years now. How’s that keyboard repair holding up? Thanks. :)
ОтветитьWhere did you even get a pet
ОтветитьThe toolkit EPROM adds commands like Renumber.
ОтветитьPET VetTM
Ответитьi believe that the pos systems at Montgomery ward stores were pet based

ОтветитьWindows password recovery question. "What was your first pet's name?" David: "PET 4016"
ОтветитьDavid has been doing these videos for so long that they are becoming vintage themselves.
ОтветитьI miss the videos like this one.
ОтветитьI'd be happy enough just to have a non working one of these to sit on my shelf, they do look great
