Kate Raworth Doughnut Economics Lab | Extinction Rebellion UK

In the October Rebellion last year I was in London talking about how we could transform economics and what’s changed from then to now is I’m thrilled that we’ve set up an organisation, Doughnut Economics Action Lab that means everyone can join us in rewriting economics and making new economy real, so please join us at doughnuteconomics.org if you want to help turn regenerative and distributive economics in to the reality of the twenty first century.

What else has changed from my experience over the last year is of course the COVID crisis has come across on top of the ecological and climate crisis and I’m struck by the number of governments that have been approaching us realising that they can’t have one policy and plan to tackle to the climate crisis and another policy and plan to tackle the global pandemic and another policy and plan to tackle inequality and another policy and plan for the economy - that these things are all together, these crisis are emerging from this system.

We actually need a new vision of what we think are thriving economy and society is in the twenty first century and more and more places, rich and low income, small and large places are coming to us saying we can see something in the vision of this doughnut concept meets the needs of all people and the needs of the planet that helps us here, we want to envision thriving so there’s something happening at the level of paradigm change which has to give us courage and energy.
