So, basically, "Warcraft" and "World Of Warcraft" are two different continuity. Warcraft is a masterpiece and WOW is garbage!

One other bit of recent lore is declaring that "fel", like void and undeath, are on the side of "chaos". But, the legion, who are all about fel energy, are pretty much the living embodiment of "order". They're a relentless hierarchy of levels upon levels, with orders they won't tolerate disobedience of, and a single figure at the head. That's ORDER itself! Yes, they're destructive, but that's an end goal the whole army is working towards. It's still very orderly. I'm still trying to reconcile this, but personally I wouldn't have associated anything on the table with vague concepts like "order" and "chaos", and just kept it as a chart of where all the forces sit in relation to each other. After all, life itself, one of the supposed "order" branches, can be very chaotic indeed.

On a side note, I have no idea how they can properly fix all the plotholes introduced in Shadowlands. Their conception of an afterlife runs against so much of what was established before that they'd literally have to reveal that "the Purpose" was a lie by whoever created them and that whole realm is hidden somewhere in the depths of the Twisting Nether, and that no, not all souls go to them, just the ones they manage to capture.

Garona... is a reton introduced to fix a timing plothole, and yet even with the whole "how could she have had time to grow into an adult if half of her is human if the dark portal had only been open for a few years? " thing doesn't bother me nearly so much as saying she's half alien and also half DIFFERENT alien- so hey let's send her in as a spy because the humans will totally trust her. But really, they made her half-draenai so her baby Medan could be the child of three different planets because... of course he was.

This is kind of why I never read books or other reading material for lore in video games, since it's almost inevitable that if a video game series goes on long enough, a lot of shit is gonna be retconned anyway.

Most retcons past pandaria were just complete nonsense.

Wow lores biggest problems is revealing everything and adding a bunch of detail leaving no speculation anymore, especially when it comes to old gods, titans, etc. They were fun because they were higher powers just like in our own world. Revealing them ruined them completely

You missed the biggest one of Shadowlands: retconning the existence of an afterlife consisting of a judgement and then the dead being trapped in their various afterlives. The presence of the spirits of the ancestors in our plane has played a significant part in Horde plots in earlier expansions, most notably in the Nagrand plots in both TBC and WoD, with the dark naaru K'ure pulling and feeding on the souls of the dead, which was attributed as the cause of the whole "demons impersonating the ancestors" thing that first swayed Gul'dan. There's also the Red Rocks event introduced in Cataclysm, where we can go and meet Cairne's spirit at Red Rocks in Mulgore during one of the holidays - I think the Thanksgiving one - which remained in place as a seasonal event through Shadowlands (and to this day) even though it directly contradicted that expansion's retcons.

all of the later stuff to do with gods and titans is probably the thing that ruined WoW's story the most. some questions in a fantasy world should remain unanswered

The retcons of the Lich King's origins in shadowlands severed my investment to the story. That and making it absolutely impossible outside of some alternate timeline laziness writing to bring the Lich King back into the fold.

The helm and frostmourne. created by the runecarver by request of either zoval ( the jailer) or sire denathruis ( Zovals bud), Denathrius gave them to the nathrezeem, who are of him ( his kids? creations? confusing) for them to find a way to create chaos, they joinedup wit hte legion after leading sargerus to the void, all in the name os creating as much chaos as they could. zoval needed a titan soul to enter the shadowlands ( which they normaly dont) to take out the automaton they got to replace zoval ( as that used to be his job i think) so not so much retcons as tying a whole lot of seemingly seperate things.

as for sylvanases death, Again, the jailer had a hand in that. he needed more chaos, and saw in her a way to cuase more. so he showed her the maw, to scare her into actions she wouldnt have made before. this lead her into a kind of madness in the name os saving her people. and herself

I don't agree with Vashj new motivation making more sense (meaning that she joined Illidan because the old gods tol her so, versus her respect to his past and powers), because in Shadowlands we see her like Kael'thas trying to redeem herself to which I think the previous narrative fits better.
