NOW YOU TELL ME! All great advice now but not what I got from spending a lot of money with my "wrangler" and your personal training program, and the macros diet. You know so much but keep it simple and ease people into your program. I will definitely take this advice! Makes perfect sense so thanks!

Hi! I’m wondering if you could do a video on gaining more muscle/caloric surplus without gaining belly fat.
Everyone keeps saying I’m too skinny. I’d like to gain more muscle which is already a challenge being I workout from home with dumbbells. I have started to increase my calories but my stomach is getting bigger 😡😞
Help! ❤️

Such a simple, but fab idea!
I would also love to see an in-depth video on maintenance phases. Particularly, for how long to have them and how long the intervals should be? And should macro ratio switches be implemented as well to mitigate metabolic adaptation?
Of course, everyone's different and ymmv. So I'm experimenting with different cut and maintenance periods through the rest of the year, and track my progress- so we'll see..
I'd love to hear other people's experiences too :)

I have multiple medical conditions including ovarian cysts which cause hormonal issues, this affects my ability to lose weight. I recently started a new job working full time at a hospital, which requires a vast amount of walking, sometimes at a quicker pace if we are busy. Despite eating more and not going to the gym AT ALL, I have lost just over 4kg or almost 9lbs in three months. I literally hadn't noticed the "effort" I was expending, I am basically getting paid to lose weight at this point haha. It is making me feel like going back to the gym is possible now that I can physically do more.

I love going for walks, if i want to eat i just get up a walk. I can day dream or listen to music-it can be meditative…. As a recovering alcoholic it was my go to when i had a craving for boze too.

I’ve always been a walker, and avg 7-10k steps daily. I injured myself lifting heavier to try to bust past a stubborn plateau. I went away last month and hit at least 12k, but over 16k steps 3 days in row and no lifting. I didn’t eat too much, but ate what I wanted and didn’t track. When I got home I was down 3 lbs and had finally bust the plateau. I’ve been lifting less to heal, walking more and just moving around more and I’ve lost several more lbs in the past month.

Two things:

1) The scale isn’t what matters. There are many bodybuilders with perfect physiques who are technically obese. What matters is body fat, blood sugar, and cholesterol. Obsessing over what the scale says isn’t necessary.

2) In the real world where people have both professional and family obligations, it’s impossible to pre-plan every single meal. Imagine going to an office luncheon and trying to calculate the number of macros or carbs you’re consuming.

I love walking and do 10000 steps a day. I’m in 50s and going through menopause. I like IF as well. I’m at a standstill though. Do I up steps and do light weights. I would love to look like you but if I lift heavy I do bulk. I’m an endomorph so have to be careful.

I have been an athlete my entire adult life. Hiking (major ones like Mt Whitney, Gtand Canyon), horseback riding, cycling, swimming, even tried my hand at triathlon in my 60s. Then a new love (now my life partner) and I were hit by a deer while riding his motorcycle and it changed everything. While I am happy we survived, I now have issues doing cardio because of back, hip or knee pain.
Another challenge is living in AZ. As I write this it is 111 outside. Not conducive to walking.
I am watching these vids with hope that I can learn alternatives for when the pain hits.
Ps I am now 71

I have found doing walking/running intervals at my local frisbee golf course works well for me. I feel like the spiking my heart rate every so often keeps my body guessing and not steady state which over time our body adjusts to and then it slows down our metabolism.

Dear mystery workout lady,
I'm stuck at a plateau and walking is what helped me go from 260 to 190-193 and for some reason I strayed from walking to absurd amounts of jumping jacks, squats, lunges and the like... and hit a SERIOUS plateau, I am hoping that with cutting carbs a lot lower I can get from the 190's to 160 by the end of the year. I truly thought I had a bad case of the 30's where anything that worked in my 20's isn't going to work anymore, however, I think I just went overboard with the other stuff.... hope this helps! Maybe I need two cute white dogs to help me... please feel free to overnight them to me... hey, don't be selfish think of my health! Lol

I'm confused. How does the body adapt to less food and more movement so we don't lose weight but it doesn't adapt to more food and less movement? If our bodies adapt so well to changes in intake and movement then how do people get fat? Genuinely asking, i don't understand.

It would take quite awhile to work up to enough walking to burn an extra pound a week, probably more than an hour a day. Also, hunter gatherers walk many miles a day but do not burn any more calories than modern people who are more sedentary. Our bodies just use the calories differently, but it’s likely there is something else walking does that shifts the body composition not to mention the positive effect on mitochondria. I still think it is wise advice, especially for anyone who isn’t moving much. It’s just a very human thing to do!
