In the vast and arid landscapes of Northern Kenya, where the winds of the Arid North dominate, a new sound echoes - that of excavators transforming parts of the land into mega dams. This is ENNDA's transformative initiative, a beacon of hope aiming to harness floodwaters and reshape the lives of pastoral communities across the region.
The initiative, is a response to the challenges posed by perennial droughts and floods in the region. The Ewaso Ng’iro North River Basin Development Authority (ENNDA) launched an ambitious plan to construct dams strategically placed across Northern Kenya. These dams serve as reservoirs, capturing excess floodwater during the rainy season and provide a crucial resource for agriculture, domestic use and for livestock during drier periods.
