Does a Mach Hommy song have eyes? Yes, ever.
Ответитьmach hommy is an amazing lyricist.. glad you're digging his discography professor. Enjoy your weekend.
ОтветитьIf you go back and listen to Westside Gunn's - Flyest N** in Charge. You'll see how much of an early visionary he was.
ОтветитьDo an old Ka album hermit, honor, descendants, I promise you will not be disappointed.
ОтветитьI think it got taken down but there's a video for solo dolo where he's not wearing the mask, feels like seeing Zev Love X before he became DOOM.
ОтветитьI always love your videos. Thanks for the recommendations! Update: I just ordered a copy of the H. Rap Brown book.
ОтветитьThanks for the great review! Do you take requests? Would love your take on Noname’s Telefone.
ОтветитьBest video you’ve dropped so far. Lots of people do reviews, but you do your due diligence to decipher and actually speak about the culture (with charisma) and the foundation of it. Kudos professor!
ОтветитьSorry for kinda ignoring the review with my comment but have you recovered? If not hope you're doing great chief
ОтветитьHas professor explained why he doesn't swear?
Ответитьi would literally go to school if professor Skye was my teacher
ОтветитьI was highly anticipating this review and you did not disappoint! I knew you'd go deep into it
ОтветитьClass is in session, Great review!
Ответитьcan you please link where you got the paperback for h rap brown?
ОтветитьBest review yet. Lots to learn.
ОтветитьOne of the best videos man. I love your work and you teach me so much professor. You’re one of the best out there, and I appreciate your take and breakdown of these lines, your knowledge knows no bounds! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 thank you for the book references too! I will be reading ALOT this year 🤝 my only critique is that the song Kinglish has muchhhh more depth than you gave it credit for.
ОтветитьAll I can really say is holy shit… thank you for the knowledge and this video.
ОтветитьThank you Prof Skye for a fantastic review! Everybody should watch the documentary Exterminate All The Brutes by Haitian filmmaker Raoul Peck. It's about systemic rasism and white supremacy throughout history. It's a hard watch but important. I highly recommend it. It's on HBO.
ОтветитьThe G.A.T. is the splash
Ответитьyou are gonna like the G.A.T.
ОтветитьI feel like you speak too positively about the white wealthy experience under Reagan in the 80s. While you clearly acknowledge the privilege of your situation, I feel like everyone suffers under racism, despite the fact that some suffer far more than others.
ОтветитьI hope mach releases the supertape eps on streaming since you liked fyi a lot.
ОтветитьYou are the only white man I would allow to teach me more about my own people. I love you Prof
ОтветитьBeen a fan of your videos for a couple months (never been compelled to comment before!) but this is imo your best yet. The one I’m gonna link people to to say watch this guy’s videos. Insightful, passionate, everything I love about you at its best man!!! Get well soon Professor.
ОтветитьLove the review so far... I'm actually busy picking up reading again so thank you for the book list 🙏🏾
ОтветитьI absolutely love when my favorite rappers make these connections!
I think you would really enjoy breaking down a Billy Woods/ Armand Hammer Project. They are loaded with many leftist, obscure, & philosophical references!
I would start with Billy Woods- History Will Absolve Me
Now, this talk wants me to be back in college. But 57 years old now, so nothing left but complementing you on this wonderful breakdown of Mach Hommy's F.Y.I.
Ответить"...a slight call-back, I believe, to H. Rap Brown, who I'll be discussing at great length..." 👍🥰 Yes! He needs to be talked about more...
You said "do a victory lap in the comment section if you heard of him" - I'm doing a lap just off hearing that Mach put you on to him! One of the greatest speakers, ever... such an incredibly brave man. His book sits next to The Autobiography of Malcolm X on my bookshelves. I won't clown you for not knowing about him lol I just look forward to hearing you speak on his legacy! His speeches are.... smh 🔥🔥🔥🔥 WOW. Several available on YT.
[BTW... from H. Rap Brown to Robert Johnson - I love it. This is why your Mach vids are my favorite... and you'd dig my playlists lol]
P.S. His fellow Trumpers around the country are banning (and burning) books on people like Ruby Bridges & Rosa Parks, and Kanye wants to get rid of "Black History Month"?!? You can't just focus on the future when people don't yet know the history; much of the reason we don't progress is because people are kept ignorant of the past.
P.P.S. Trumpism is just Reaganism with the pretty packaging ripped off... and thankfully, Drumpf was far more incompetent than Reagan, and had only half as long to finish what Reagan & the GOP started 40 yrs ago.
Please review Beach House's Once Twice Melody!
ОтветитьYou should listen to Oliver’s new album Cowboy Tears!
ОтветитьI have some physical copies making physical copies is so awesome
ОтветитьProfessor this is the most informative review you’ve dropped. This video is incredible on many levels. Thank you
Ответить"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past." -George Orwell
ОтветитьGreat video, What other books should be within my library? Also are you going to buy Mach-Hommy & Conductor Williams latest four track EP for $222?
Ответитьbet money he’s out there watching this rn
ОтветитьEye of the storm. Thanks for doing this! It’s an honor to listen to you decipher and provide context to his music. Giving your audience a deeper understanding and appreciation for something they already find fantastic!
ОтветитьYour offhand comment denigrating the Steve Jobs quote is extremely telling, you appear to have missed the entire context.
ОтветитьThank you professor, accurately adding commentary to cryptic conscious rap, plz continue to make content like this 🙏🏾.
ОтветитьJust catching your video of this now. On the H. Rap Brown/Rapper’s Delight issue: Big Bank Hank ended up taking those rhymes from Grandmaster Caz from the Cold Crush Brothers. It’s a side rabbit hole to check out if anyone’s interested in researching.
Turns out Caz might’ve taken those lines from Brown?
Wow, what an awesome review! I feel like I’d listened to the album when I actually haven’t.
ОтветитьProfessor, do you listen to estee nack at all? Some solid work, tap in
ОтветитьI hate when brothers say they don’t read!
Great lecture again professor!
Every break down u do is like taking a class, and I appreciate it. Learned a lot and already knew the album beforehand.
ОтветитьI love Ronald Reagan and Mach-Hommy. I am also racist
ОтветитьAVAA
Doing laps for Rap before rap..
Some points:
Die N Die IS an excellent book and serves as a snapshot of the era; but Imam Jamil has since distanced himself from the book's tone and language.
Revolution by the Book by Imam Jamil is a companion read to Die N Die, showing how to make personal and community transformation
I, too, felt the sting of Ronald the Rea-gun (to quote another forefather of hip hop, Gil-Scott) and knew of his hatred..
As long as H. Rap Brown, "Rap before rap", (now known as Jamil Al-Amin) is kept in prison, whatever is thought of as good and positive in the culture will itself be a prisoner, esp. through Reaganism and the "go along to get along" politics of the loyal opposition
Let Imam Jamil's freedom be a litmus test to what is said and what is done.
