TLN TV Canada's most influential multicultural media organization visited Willowdale Manor and will be broadcasting a special based ion interviews with seniors and their families. This is one of such interviews.

For over 50 years, thousands of elderly residents who have occupied Willowdale Manor and Cummer Lodge seniors supportive housing and long term care facilities run by the City of Toronto on the corner of Cummer and Willowdale Aves have enjoyed the majestic mature trees on their grassy front lawn.

But under a senseless plan concocted secretly by City of Toronto bureaucrats and councillors during the pandemic, these trees are about to be destroyed to install 59 single occupancy units on this seniors' property.

And worst of all, stubborn City officials refuse to dedicate these units to senior citizens needing housing. Despite the fact this property was zoned for seniors housing and is actually used only for seniors housing!

City officials even had the nerve to tell the courts that any request to dedicate this front yard development for seniors "heads us in the direction " of "segregation on reserves in Canada", "Apartheid South Africa" or "in Poland and France in the 1940s" !

This is the work of arrogant elected officials and unaccountable bureaucrats earning lavish salaries having wasted many tens of millions of taxpayers dollars on this senseless mission to trample seniors' rights and vilify all those who seek to protect them.

In Ontario, long-term care homes must follow a law called the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, which includes a Residents’ Bill of Rights that states:
“Every resident has the right to be given access to protected outdoor areas in order to enjoy outdoor activity unless the physical setting makes this impossible.”

And click here to judge for yourself whether this site looks like rare treed green space that should be preserved not destroyed. https://lnkd.in/gPQ59dh3

Well, for the past 4 years Abi Bond the City's housing czar and her co-conspirators have been steamrolling defenseless seniors, destroying their decades old beautiful healthy trees on their front lawn and refusing to acknowledge this site exists for the health and well being of hundreds of seniors who are in the care of the City itself!

And it gets worse. Even though a court hearing is scheduled for November, the City is now rushing to clear cut all the trees as soon as possible before the court date so that the site is destroyed regardless of the Court's decision!

It seems that only the clear thinking minds at the Ontario Government can save the seniors now. Local MPP Minister Stan Cho has advocated for these seniors. Now Minister Paul Calandra is their last hope -- to save their respite green space or at least ensure that any taking of that space is expressly dedicated to housing that is occupied by fellow seniors.
