Welcome to BTS! Girl, you don’t even know what you’ve gotten yourself into. 😉 You are going to fall in love with these unbelievable seven guys who are so very talented AND amazing people who bring so much positivity and joy into the world. Their journey started back in 2013 and they are still going strong today. Take note of the dates these music videos are from. You’ll be amazed by how their music has withstood the test of time. Their story is a bit different from the typical k-pop acts. They came on the scene as a part of a small k-pop company as opposed to one of the big 3 companies who ruled the k-pop industry back then (that company now rules the industry). Unlike other artists, they were given free reign to create their own music. They worked so hard to become what they are now. They are more than just music. They have their own variety show called “Run BTS” and other types of content that is so enjoyable. They are serving in the Korean military right now which is mandatory for Korean males. However, they all dropped solo albums and recorded tons of content for us that is getting released sporadically so that we don’t miss them too much. They are still the group BTS, but all do solo work as well. There is just so much to say. I hope you continue to discover their awesome body of work as well as what they are like as people. I could go on and on and on, but I’m sure that other ARMYs (what their fandom is called) will give you more details. Keep going…some of my favorite songs (and mvs) are Black Swan, Fire, On Kinetic Manifesto, Boy with Love, and Butter. Welcome to the world of BTS! Good job on the reaction. The song Dynamite was put out during COVID and is just a positive vibe to help lift everyone's spirits during such a difficult period. It is one of their 3 all English songs. They are known for mixing English words and phrases into their songs. Learning about these guys is a wild/fun experience. These seven men are truly brothers and love each other deeply. They also make a strong point of showing their love for their fandom called ARMY. They show and share more of themselves and their private lives than any other group I've ever seen and at age 63, I've seen many. Please listen to ARMY when looking for suggestions or information and don't forget to do some homework on your own (if you're interested in looking deeper into them). BTS are definitely masters of their own ship. They are directly involved in choosing the direction of their music/albums as well as being heavily involved in the writing and to a lesser degree in the production, and all are shareholders in their label. In the last two years they have all (with the exception of Jin - coming soon!) realised solo albums prior to their mandatory military enlistment period. They will all have completed military duty and reunite as a group next year.
I think Black Swan would be a great next step, along with Mic Drop (Steve Aoki remix), and ON Kinetic Manifesto Film. These will help to show you some less ‘pop’ sides and give you an idea of their range.

I discovered BTS in January 2023. They are such a special group. I was not into mainstream pop, r&b, jazz, hip hop, or EDM. My background was metal, alternative, and indie. However, I watched the music video for Fake Love and became obsessed with that song and then went down the rabbit hole. They really expanded my musical taste and are now my favorite group ever. Here are some recommendations.

Solo songs (some released as BTS , some as solo releases, and some as mixed tapes or free sound cloud releases). It helps to start with solo work so you recognize all the members when you get into group work. I also recommend the guide the bangtan by Taylor Mari, a fan and also a professional editor. The songs are just some of my favorites. They have many more.

Rappers:

AGUST-D (Solo name-suga + daegu town where he grew up spelled backwards)/Suga ( BTS name-stands for shooting guard, his favorite basketball position-he is a brand ambassador for the NBA)/ Min Yoongi (real name) He is a song writer and producer and has producing credits for many of the BTS songs and well as writing credits. He and one other friend will be the only credits you will find for most of his solo work and they do all the production. He has also written and produced for other artists including psy.

Songs: trilogy: Deschwita, haegum, and Amygdala; snooze- featuring woosung from the indie band The Rose; burn it featuring Max; people, moonlight, Agust-D, give it to me, the last, nevermind, shadow, seesaw, dear friend, strange featuring RM, so far away, road to D Day documentary on disney plus, also he hosts a talk show called suschwita where guests come and eat and drink and chat. They bring and share their favorite alcohol. The episodes are all on bangtantv. The episodes with the other members to support their solo releases are especially good but all of them are interesting.

RM (Used to stand for rap monster but now stands for real me, real name is Kim Namjoon; he is the leader of BTS and the main rapper. He was the first recruited and the group was formed around him.) Currently serving in the south korean military until June 2025. One of the main songwriters for BTS and his solo work and even other groups.

Songs: wildflower featuring an incredible female metal vocalist from south korea but i am blanking on her name; nuts, domodachi featuring british female rapper little simz who is amazing; persona-based on map of the soul psychology by Carl jung-- they have and entire album based on this theme; lost, heaven, come back to me, groin, Ughgood, everything goes featuring nell, change with wale, forever rain, still Life with Anderson paak, and as a bonus, Meagan thee stallion just featured him on her recent song Neva Play. Tiny desk korea live performance. Currently serving in the south korean military until June 2025. Part of his duties is playing saxophone in the military band. The two mini and moni episodes on bangtantv are really good where RM and Jimin have and album exchange listening party and discuss their latest solo albums. Very insightful.

J-hope (bts name, real name jung hoseok) He came to the group as a hip hop dancer who then learned to rap from RM and Suga. He will be released from the korean military this month on October 17th. Heavily involved in writing BTS songs and his own work.

Now to the vocal line.

Jungkook, main vocalist, youngest in the group. Currently in the south korean military until June 2025. Released his first solo album last year named Golden. Often goes by JK or Kookie. He became a trainee for BTS at age 13 and is naturally talented at everything so he also became an excellent dancer.

Songs: standing next to you, standing next to you featuring usher, seven featuring latto, 3D featuring jack harlow, still with you (written by JK), my you (written by JK), euphoria live at wembley, my time, stay alive produced by suga, shot glass full of tears, hate you, closer to you, begin, somebody, and the live performance at times square. Disney plus also has a travel show where JK and jimin visit Connecticut, Jeju island, and Sapporo, Japan and basically eat, but they also do adventures like kayaking, boating, swimming, climbing, snowboarding/skiing, etc. He is hilarious.

Jimin. Contemporary and hip hop dancer, learned to sing with BTS. Counter tenor, so he has a very high voice. Serving in the military until June 2025. He is in the same unit as JK. He has released two short solo EPs last year and they performed exceptionally well. Many refer to him as the king of kpop.

V (bts name) real name is Kim Taehyung. He has a soulful baritone voice and an affinity for jazz music. He is also an excellent dancer and he learned as a trainee for BTS. He is serving in the korean special forces unit of the military until June 2025. He released his first solo EP last year.

Songs: singularity music video and live performance, stigma live performance, slow dancing, rainy days, fri(end)s, love me again, sweet night, winter bear, Christmas tree, tiny desk korea live performance.

Jin (real name is Kim seokjin): He is the oldest and completed his military service this June. The day after release he held a fan meeting where he hugged 1000 fans or something like that and performed several songs for them. He has been busy ever since shooting his own variety show run jin, appearing on other variety shows, carrying the torch in the Paris Olympics, becoming a gucci brand ambassador, and recording his first solo album which should drop in the next few months.

Songs: epiphany live at wembley, the astronaut, the astronaut Live with coldplay in Argentina, abyss, yours, awake, and of course, any run jin episode. He is hilarious. For laughs you should also check out his viral fishing song he released for his birthday as a joke called super tuna.

BTS began in 2013, so there is a massive back catalogue of music of about 500 songs. BTS started as a hip hop group, but now cover many genres of music, including rap, pop, latin pop, edm, hip hop and much more. The lyrics are very meaningful and they write, compose and produce their own music and write about social issues like mental health, social anxiety, societal expectations on young people and self love. BTS really forge their own path now and very much have control of their destinies and music, having been around for 11 years and also being men in their late 20s and early 30s. They have won about 1,000 awards to date also.

The group is made up of 3 rappers and 4 vocalists, all extremely talented and experienced. They are amazing dancers also and are known for thier complex choreography and show stopping live performances. They are all undertaking mandatory military service in South Korea at the moment (apart from Jin, who has been discharged and J Hope being discharged in a week). They undertook solo projects just before they enlisted, but will be back together as a group mid 2025, when they all have finished military. BTS always have had solo projects throughout and it doesn’t mean they disbanded the way it would in western groups, but it is just a way to enable the individual members to express their own individuality and style, so when they are a group, they are still bringing this as a whole.

BTS have global fandom, called Army, with approximately 90 million people of all ages as fans, ranging from 20s to 70s ages. They are far from what most people assume as the stereotype pop fandoms, not all only young people. Their lyrics, MVs and music are written about more in depth topics and not like groups who just sing about love. If a BTS song is about love, it is usually multi layered and more focused on love of self and complexity of relationship with yourself. Of course, it can be taken as romantic love also if that is what the listener prefers, but it is not the main intention of the song.

They sell out stadiums globally now (including Wembley stadium - 2 nights, within a couple of hours) as the biggest group in the world currently. If you want to really see how diverse and talented they are, try a few of their korean songs. They made 3 english songs during the pandemic to cheer people up, but the korean ones are amazing and I prefer them.

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. 7 is not that big. U get used to it. Some groups are 8, 9, 13, and 26 members. UwU DNA was the song that had them blow up in USA. More songs followed soon after every year since then. DNA is for army their fans. It's basically we are all connected by DNA. So sweet. U can watch behind the scenes vids to learn more about the MVs. Dance practice are a must as well as performance videos. Dynamite was their 1st ever Eng song. Now they got 3. This one was written by American songwriters. usually BTS and staff write their own songs. Jk is eating a donut. =0p They practice really hard. RM the leader can speak Eng fluently. He the guy with blue hair here. But pls don't remember them by their hair colors they change them often. Dynamite was given to us army/fans during covid. It was made to lift our spirits and give us energy. =0] Each member has solo songs too. They have Japanese albums as well and songs. Korean skin care is amazing. The guys are actually 27yo-31yo. Jin the oldest will be 32yo in Dec. Jk the maknae/youngest is 27yo. He has a full Eng album called Golden it's really good. The others have albums too. Korean music is usually with Eng. Sometimes more Eng sometimes less. BTS are not considered Kpop to us. They are just BTS. If u hear enough Kpop u will see a pattern. BTS don't fit into that no more. Jimin ult bias, Suga wrecker, OT7. Jimin was the really high vocal in Dynamite. Like soft and high. They key change was done by Jk the golden maknae.
