The latency numbers were unticked in the AMD Overlay and I noticed it too late. Sorry about that.

For those interested the added latency in Cyberpunk was around 8ms. The added latency in Dragon's Dogma 2 and Palworld was about 10ms. These numbers are based on the AMD overlay.

AFMF 2 stands for AMD Fluid Motion Frames, and it's a driver-level frame generation technique. Unfortunately it's not perfect as it is not game aware, so it doesnt have access to motion vectors, meaning that some UI elements might become garbled. Still, AFMF 2 is pretty good, and very useful in certain situations.

i tested afmf 2 in god of war and ragnarok, days gone, also cb 2077. metro exodus, witcher 3 next gen, in only game i noticed artifacts was in days gone near ui for ammo, for others i didnt, but there might be some, 70 fps average is sweet spot for it for me. at low 60 and high 50 i do notice slowdown

The RX 7800 XT is being licked so zealously in the comments, and really there's a lot to be said for it. It is also an indisputable statement that Huang is greedy, and gives a strong markup on the price for the brand, but, there is a big but, the technology of the green for which you pay, really a head above the red, and it is very clearly seen even in the tests in the video when the rtx, which is undoubtedly the best technology for creating correct, logical and very beautiful lighting in games, having no direct analogues, because cubic maps, rasterization, and a million other tools to create +- plausible imitation of sunlight, are not even close to tracing the path. FSR3 is still much more soapy and works worse than dlss, the same goes for AFMF2, although AFMF2 looks quite promising. But most importantly, the manufacturer of our video cards doesn't give a shit about us greens, but the studios producing games optimize and test them first of all for nvidia gpu, from recent examples, in a large multiplayer game hunt shotdown, from crytek, after the transition to a new version of the engine, people on red video cards couldn't simply play the game for two months, because for some reason all the shadows in the game were blacker than the abyss. So buying AMD you get better “dry” performance for less money, and buying NVIDIA you pay more per fps, but in return you get better technology and more stability (I'm not kidding about the old AMD drivers, really)

Is there anything you can do if this doesn't work automatically in some games.

Borderlands 3 isn't showing fps when I activate this and marvel midnight sun's sometimes activates but other times won't activate.

In marvel midnight sun's the fps won't go above 90 when the fps is set too 120 fps and the gpu is only 70% in use, cpu is under 40% and ram is at about 20gb of use out of 32gb and v ram is 5-6.8gb vram out of 8gb

This is my exact same PC build, and you showcased it on DD2 which is exactly what I've been looking for so thank you
But I was just wondering if the results would be better on native 1080p and if the input lag is too much?

Tried it on Spiderman remastered with 7800xt, enabled radeon chill, capped it to 80fps, enabled frame gen and the overlay shows 160fps. really smooth just like when I dont enable it with fps uncapped. The gpu pwr draw dropped quite big and the temps too. On NBA 2k25 next gen tho, it stutters quite a lot 😂 wil try other games when I get the time.

I'm playing Space Marine 2 at 1800p FSRQ, AFMF2 (anti-lag is there also) FPS is solid at 60 in the lows to 80+. Settings remain maxed aside from textures brought down from Ultra to High and volumetrics from Ultra to High. I'm a photographer of 30 years now and pixel peep with Raw files to Jpeg all day, the texture differences from Ultra to High is lets say 'subjective' afaik. It gives around 15-20fps extra than using 2160 4K and there is a meagre, but noticeable visual uplift from 1440p. Very little noticeable difference coming down to 1800 from 2160. The refresh rate feels much faster than the general 60-70 fps that is given out (the anti-lag indicator in the top left) I'm just not noticing any latency in the game - wired (mouse, controller) or unwired (keyboard)... maybe the keyboard, I miss space bar dodges rather than parrys! (bound to the mouse thumb button). Otherwise it plays flawlessly really.

I have Lossless Scaling also, not investigated it in gaming much yet - great for using on old film archive footage for certain presentations.

I know the resolution step is 720, 1080, 1440, 2160, but could you have a look at the interceding resolutions sometime, how does that affect the upscaling process in games? Is it usually a sound idea in gaming to set the in game resolution to 1800 in certain use cases rather than 2160 for performance, or should one step down to 1440p?

edit: specs 5800X3D with a RX 7800 XT / 32" 1440p, 165hz, QHD panel here.

Love the overviews, cheers.

I use it in dark souls 1 remastered to play at higher frames and it feels real to me, definitely a nice thing to have (atleast for fps locked games) and since it's not tied to the game's engine it doesn't mess up animations or timings, i have noticed some artifacts but it's still very good (keep in mind msi afterburner will still report 60 fps, you'll have to use adrenaline to see the real fps you are playing at, atleast in dark souls 1 which is locked to 60 fps)

In AFMF 1, it looks as if TAA or any anti aliasing technology doesn't work even when it's enabled that I get cogs on slant edges. Can anybody tell me whether this problem has been resolved in AFMF 2? It will really be a great help.

Let me ask why when I turn on AFMF2, the FPS drops severely? (I play the game GOW RAGNAROK 4K SCALE 2K ULTRA SETTINGS)
And let me ask another question, in the video when you turn on AFMF2, is the FPS on the left or right correct?
Tks.

I like the tech but more of this style tech comes, the more devs will get lazy with optimisation, this type of tech should be only limited to last gen or 2 and not available on new gen. Look at mh wilds requirments, they expect frame gen on at 1080p with 4060ti. Sure 4060ti isn't great but 60 series is the most popular and back in day 1060 was good for everything that came out.

I was testing this on tdu solar crown last night and i decided to turn on ultra setting 4k taa vrr anti lag and fluid frames 2 and as long as there are no major frame drops in a sudden manner, i was getting a 60fps experience with no difference in controller lag that was perceived. It was a great update and i feel like my two year old card just got a new life

AFMF 2 for me is not so great because of the tearing (You can easily see it in Palworld, I tested AFMF2 in AC Valhalla and it occured too). I have a monitor with freesync and it's unacceptable for me. I don't see tearing while using Lossless Scaling FG and sometimes there are less artifacts depending on the game. Basically having those alternatives it's better to check how it acts in specific games.

it can use it to offload some of the frame generation, so there's almost no performance cost

Why do u think CDPR implemented FSR so bad in this game? Why did they not add FSR 3.1? fsr 3 is still using fsr 2.2 upscaling which is worse than 2.1 and that is why they kept FSR 2.1 in the game. I think CD Projekt Red has Nvidia's balls in their mouth thats why they screwed over AMD users like myself. Also its nice to see a fellow South African on here. Keep it up👍

its important to know thats your experience with afmf2 would be much better if your normal fps is much higher. try to get at least stable 60-80fps or higher and then turn on afmf2 and enyo a much smoother experience.
