I hope you enjoy listening to me attempt (and fail) to pronounce Spanish names.

In 1980 a bizarre coalition of Drug Lords (Roberto Suárez Gómez), Military Generals (Luis García Meza, Luis Arce Gomez), fugitive Nazi Klaus Barbie, and a European Neo-Fascist mercenary group came together to overthrow the government of Bolivia. The short government turned out to be one of Bolivia's most violent and bloodthirsty regimes, losing the support of the United States and ending up a pariah state before being ushered out of power just as quickly as it had first appeared.

Though not particularly well known, the coup is immortalized as a brief detail in the 1983 classic, Scarface. The real story is certainly interesting and it's more sad that it happened than anything else.
