Hey! New subscriber here! I run a small landscaping company here in the UK. I'm really struggling to find people to work for me. You did inspire me to rent a unit to store all of my tools. £130 a month, 24 hours 7 days access with toilet and cctv, a huge unit. I'm about to buy my first van and a large rotavator! I'm proud but struggling to find people...any help or advice?

Some of my guys are 1099 workers, I teach them how to invest an offset their tax liability. They also have the option to make more money as a full time employee. I have been with the same guys for quite some time now and I’m always on the job with them, we get it done faster and everyone makes more money

You forgot about how sometimes the subcontractor can be better than the company. Once, while I was working for a company on a patio project, a subcontractor on-site provided correct directions when the company failed to do so. Together, we solved the issue. However, when the boss arrived, he was furious about the potential loss of money and showed little concern for doing what was right. Taking responsibility, I informed him that the mistake was mine, which ultimately cost me a week's salary. Nevertheless, I decided to quit on the spot. If you're a homeowner, I strongly recommend hiring someone you can trust, as many companies prioritize profit over quality work and integrity. Remember, if you still care for humanity, always pursue what is the right thing to do, because it will eventually pay off."

You're not paying a Subby $1000 it's more like $2000 😮 that's why you prefer wage slaves. They are considerably cheaper labour

I work as a 1099 for a subcontractor for Comcast as a cable technician. If I were to switch and become a direct employee of Comcast, I'd probably have to get divorced and ditch my apartment because I wouldnt be able to support neither

I average like 60/hr as a 1099. The employee technicians for Comcast top out at like 30/hr max for top and most experienced technicians. The employees do get benefits and gas paid, etc, but still that doesnt justify 30/hr...

So from my point of view, and in this specific field and this specific employer, 1099 is the way to go. Ofcourse it differs from technician to technician. If you're efficient, you want to be 1099. If you want to take your time and you have lots of health problems, then employee. But at the end of the day, some of the 1099 for Comcast I know make close to 6 figures and live in luxury apartments and have at least one luxury vehicle

The taxes are also easy to write off. Obviously its borderline illegal, but for example, on my 90k 1099 last year I only paid 4k in taxes. I actually did not have any business expenses aside from gas, but you can make everything up from tools to physical cable and all that, when in reality Comcast gives you all that stuff for free in infinite quantity

If someone works solely for you by the hour and you tell them when where and how to do the work. Supply and material and tools. They are your employee. Lots of Contractors want to act like a boss, but without taking responsibility for the liability of taxes, workers comp, insurance, retirement, healthcare, paid sick leave, vacation time.
