How does operational excellence create revenue? Operational excellence is a business strategy that can help companies increase revenue by maximizing efficiency, reducing costs, and optimizing processes. It can also help businesses outperform their competitors and create a better customer experience. According to a McKinsey & Company report, companies with strong operational excellence programs can achieve up to 30% higher revenue growth. There's a few tactical points I want to make...and I'll use BellRing Brands (owner of Premier Protein) as the business case study example. Firstly, BellRing Brands has partnered with the biggest and most reputable protein beverage contract manufacturing players in the industry to make large CAPEX investments. This strategic decision has now given them a scalable, regionally diverse supply chain that will enable many years of robust supply growth. And it's this additional manufacturing capacity that will help them consistently keep their full lineup of flavors stocked on shelves, thus providing the company on average more SKUs per store, ACV, and overall larger TDPs that generally equal higher sales. Secondly, delivering heavy liquid products more efficiently because of the regionally diverse supply chain will create cost savings that can be reallocated back into growth activities like marketing.
Thirdly, more manufacturing capacity allows for innovation aggressiveness when format would the same as top-sellers. What I mean by that is…if Premier Protein had a new plant-based protein RTD innovation they believe is a winner, but no capacity for its already winning proven products…they would be gun shy on launching that. Finally, the increased scalability of this revamped CoMan network will give the sales and marketing teams more confidence to get aggressive on growth activities that both increase velocity and open up new sales channel…which is a good transition into next area of untapped potential for Premier Protein. The brand’s current sales activity is both highly concentrated by sales channel domestically and also geographically.
