ANTTHING democrats/liberals propose or have proposed or enforced, mandated, put into law has been idiocy & destructive.

Surely anyone with any sense wouldn't add to next 5 then next 10 then to appropriate ten then to number
surely they would just add to same units then add the same tens, ie:
12 + 0 = 12 (or just skip units because they're already equal)
12 + 20 = 32
answer = 0 + 20 = 20

..which would basically just be the same digit by digit method as the old way just written differently.

The whole idea of common core is for the students to actually understand the concepts and not just simply memorize a series of procedures.  I can definitely see the logic in that!  However, the math in this video looks like more procedure memory than ever before!!!!

Don't know what billion dollar companies have money to lose if common core is put into place because all the bullshit spread around. Here are the real facts: Education in America needs a overhaul. Students just aren't ready for college level courses. This leads to the existence of for-profit colleges.

Common core is new. It has it's issues. If we embrace it, and get the issues fixed. We can create a platform that teach people how to not only remember things, but to teach themselves(Technology is evolving every day, you need to constantly learn new things in a high pay job)

 Right now education is kind of like a whiteboard. You fill it up as much as you can. Then you take a exam. After the exam you erase the whiteboard to fit new material. None of the information is retained.

Teachers will still have control over the material. Obama Satan won't be standing behind every teacher telling them what to do.

If we get a better education system down. Good things will happen. But, after seeing something like AP History being taken out because of political reasons. I can't really say the future is bright.

This method of teaching subtraction has NOTHING to do with Common Core State Standards. This method is part of a curriculum that the state(s) are using to teach to the standards. They were not developed by the same people that developed the CCS. Check out this video particularly where it explains  the learning part near the end.

Common Core does include the standard algorithms. Most Americans were taught to compute, NOT to solve problems. Teach an efficient algorithm but don't explain it. Create generations of confused adults who can't apply what they learned to real problems not in standard form..

I mean, it gets you the correct answer with a bunch of extra steps. Really only seems useful for teaching that addition and subtraction are opposites to each other. If a kid is having trouble understanding the normal way with place holders, use this, but if I were in charge of teaching, this would be a last resort.

Two men set off to go to the store from the same starting point on foot, man one says it's a straight shot so walks 15 minutes to get there with no problem, man two realises that it is a straight shot but what if I go through the woods in the creek, down into some rocky terrain. effectively making a half circle coming behind the store walking around to the front and going in, it takes the man and hour there and an hour back mean while the first guy made it there and back in 30 minutes, man one asks man two what took you so long man two replies "oh I had an adventure through the woods over a creek etc. Well to this man one replied how adventurous does getting a loaf of bread need to be?

We hired tutors with my last two kids (now grown adults) just to get them up to speed with math. Common Core only teaches confusion and it's deliberate. I'm an electrical engineer and I've noticed new engineers with common core in-doctrine tend to get caught up in the "what ifs" and have a problem completing drawings for submittal. They just don't seem confident because there are more questions than answers. This is a great example why.

Basic arithmetic should not be this complicated because it is the foundation of higher math which is more complicated. The Chinese, Koreans, and Japanese do not teach basic math like this. In fact, they memorize the multiplication table so that it becomes automatic just like addition, subtraction, and division. Once it is automatic, just like remember the sounds of the alphabet, they can easily proceed to a more mathematically complex problem.

If you want to do it in your head, with 32-12, the two 2's cancel each other out leaving 30-10 which is then simpler. My guess is they are teaching it in a way where you can divide a problem down into easier to handle chunks, possibly in order to do it in your head. My guess is you're giving an extreme example without really explaining the process, I can't honestly make a judgment on it without more facts. I know I have come up with methods to do math in my head. I will often say, round to the nearest 10s, so with 32 - 12, I might round the 12 down to 10, then do 32 - 10 is easy in your head, that's 22, then you can subtract the 2 you eliminated earlier equally as easy. If it was like 32 - 27, I would round the 27 up in my head to 30 (up by 3), which leaves 32 - 30, which is super easy, that leaves 2, then you can add the 3 back which is equally as easy, that makes the result 5.

I like to try and add up groceries when shopping in a similar way, except I don't go for accuracy, I will use a method my mother taught me in the 1970s, round to the nearest dollar. It the price is above 0.50, you round up to the next dollar. If it is 49 cents or below, you round down. So $2.75 + $5.25 in my head is $3 + $5, or $8, which in this case is exact. When I get to the cash, my total in my head is usually within $1 from the exact amount.

"In a corporatist nation, the primary things that are attacked, captured, enslaved and ultimately destroyed are freedom and consciousness. A human becomes a subhuman, and the spontaneity of the inherently poetical human consciousness is transformed into "television consciousness." There is no place that this is better illustrated than in the hijacking of the education system in America by the corporatists."- Jeffrey Grupp, Corporatism: The Secret Government of the New World Order, 2007.

Why would anyone start by using 12 + 3 = 15 ... ??? This entire system doesn't make sense and the children know it. That's why they can't get it, and neither do the parents. Bill Gates is a globalist and wants to destroy our children's ability to logically reason and for children to get upset, feel inept and zone out of learning all together. There is a purpose for him and his crony globalists to give a new way of learning (not learning). Florida has just gotten rid of Common Core and every other state must do the same for the sake of the children.

educators developed common core math but I am not sure why. did they find a flaw in the way we figure things mathematically? we work on issues to resolve them. you fix problems by simplifying them (if possible). these educators made math harder, and take longer. why?

@FountainMath
@FountainMath - 16.04.2019 16:12

There are moments where "adding to" the target number is more useful, but I certainly won't teach a 'one method fits all' approach to mathematics.

e.g.
180 - 44 (one-hundred-eighty minus forty-four)

44 -> 50 ; Needs 6 more
50 -> 80 ; Needs 30 more
80 -> 180 ; Needs 100 more

180 - 44 = 136 without the need to 'carry/borrow' numbers

Alternatively you can do the following:
180 - 40 = 140
140 - 4 = 136

22 + 10 = 32

[10 + 10] = 20 ✅
