It's easy to feel like people asking to be empowered and given more autonomy means they're asking to be given whatever they want, but that's not normally the case. Of course you'll have exceptions and people who are looking to exploit the system.

However, most people genuinely want to contribute their best work and add value to the company. What they're asking for is the ability to deliver that best work in an environment and with the flexibility needed to achieve the best results.

Furthermore, with autonomy comes greater accountability, so giving people more autonomy doesn't mean you don't hold them accountable.
