Reason behind Rush's mining decision that lead to Motive's failed cheese (SSL 2024, Group C)

Does Rush's explanation (that its 1 space apart so he didnt feel like mining it) even make sense? At the pro level wouldnt they always mine the most efficient top patch, even if its apart from the others?

The thing I don't get is: if you think he's not at the bottom base after checking the top mineral, why don't you properly confirm it? Costs you half a second of probe movement to move one field further down. If you were right it cost you nothing, and if you were wrong, it prevents you from looking epicly stupid.
