You touched on it, but didn’t really mention it.

CHP, by law, is tasked with investigating all traffic collisions in unincorporated areas. Unlike in other states where the county Sheriff can enforce traffic, in California they do not normally do it. Sheriff’s can not run radar and enforce traffic as their primary duties.

Their primary duties are general law enforcement. CHP does not handle general law enforcement in the state unless it’s a mutual aid request from the county or city in that area.

This means that even if a collision happens 30 miles up a forest service trail, CHP has to respond to handle it.

If a County Sheriff deputy stops a vehicle in the county and the driver is DUI, CHP has to respond to take over the investigation. The Deputy does not get the arrest.

That’s just for outside of an incorporated area, some cities contract with the county for police services, and at that time the deputies are basically the same as a police officer and do everything a city officer would do. But in county areas, they don’t have traffic units, they don’t have accident units, they don’t run radar and lidar. CHP is required to do all that.

CHP is one of the few agencies in the state that do not take lateral entries. YOU MUST go through their academy, regardless if you already went through another academy in the state.

There isn’t that much info on the swat side of things I’m really curious on that aspect of the CHP I wonder if they are full time SWAT?

28 weeks is not enough, it takes 2 years to cut hair, but ~7 months to have a license to kill people because you may subjectively fear for your life. Very sad, but if you like hurting people and were bullied in school, this is your chance!! Before all the trolls erupt, I used to support LEO, but after personal expereince and watching so called "good cops' who don't intervene when the "bad apples" are misbehaving shows how warped and corrupt the system is. What other profession can you consistently screw up in and face no consequences?

Love to be a helicopter operations officer just because I love flying. Flying in and around LA airspace is the most complex form of civilian flying you can ever do however. Beside coming in conflict with dozens of flight corridors there are literally tens of thousands of very tall very slender power towers, telecom tower and other strange structures many hundreds of feet high in places you do not expect them to be. You really have your hands full flying a helicopter at night under difficult weather just looking for a car containing a suspect. Like a needle in the haystack at night

Hey General . I've been in California my whole life ....and you'd think that by 58 y/o I'd have Googled CHP sooner . But I'm only here to share a joke that I recently saw in a short video . (You guy's have probably already  known about this , but here it goes .)

It's called  "The Balance Test" . It's really funny , you'd only ask a male to do this ____ like a friend or a buddy . Here are the steps :
1. You advice the individual it's a balance test
2. You ask the individual to interlace his fingers
3. Then you ask him to straighten his arms out pushing his palms outwards
towards the ground , leaving the fingers interlaced
4. Then you ask him to remain balanced while looking at the bottom of his foot

He'll be doing a little princess pose that should be captured on a bystanders cell phone and shared w/everybody it's so damn hilarious . 
   Anyways , thank you guy's for doing what you do . [When we get on a plane , and get in the air we think about death .]
But as soon as we get behind the wheel we hardly think about anything but ourselves . Not even for an instant do we think about how dangerous we , and that vehicle are , or can be , to everybody else on the road . Not until after we and the vehicle are mangled .
